Job Description

Join us as we pursue our mission to remove the barriers between data and action so that everyone thrives in the Data Age. Splunk is filled with people who are passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology in an effort to help our customers succeed. Splunk is creating a world where data provides clarity, elevates discussion, and accelerates progress. We invite you to explore what has made us one of the fastest-growing technology companies in history, and how you can be an integral part of our journey

Role

If you’ve ever been curious about what the go-to-market side of a tech company looks like, but didn’t know how to make the move, here is your chance! Splunk is seeking someone with experience monitoring infrastructure and/or web applications to help connect end-users to our world-class Observability products. If you’ve written blog posts, given conference presentations, or otherwise connected with a technical audience and want to do more, this is the opportunity for you.

In this role, you will be a key resource for and part of a team of product marketing professionals responsible for the positioning, messaging and integrated go-to-market planning and execution for Splunk’s Observability solutions. You will be responsible for deciding what content needs to exist to increase the adoption of Observability practices at the practitioner level, and for developing this content (such as blogs/articles, videos, demos, and conference talks.) Your goals will revolve around building awareness, educating, and driving the adoption of our products by DevOps folks, such as SREs, DevOps engineers, and software engineers.

This role is organizationally in the Marketing organization, but you will work closely with the product and engineering teams to learn about new features, provide practitioner feedback to these teams, and to prioritize and create in-product content and messaging for our practitioner audience. Your overall goal is to get people talking about Observability (and using Splunk’s Observability products to do it), and to show off the features and benefits of our best-in-class products. To do this, you’ll create expert-level content to help increase Splunk’s share of voice for key topics related to Observability and DevOps. You’ll also work with other marketing teams to develop marketing campaigns and collateral that appeal to other practitioners. You should have a passion for storytelling through product, a fun, positive attitude, and you should also genuinely enjoy helping other people figure stuff out.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical content, including videos, demos, and other assets to promote product capabilities and benefits for the Splunk Observability product line
  • Write technical blog posts and articles for Splunk.com and third party websites
  • Serve as an internal resource to speak authoritatively and authentically about what practitioners (e.g., DevOps teams, SREs, IT Operations teams, software developers) want in Observability products
  • Deliver webinars and hands-on workshops to demonstrate and accelerate the adoption of products
  • Create practitioner-facing best-practice tutorials for Splunk’s Observability products, including providing instruction on how to instrument 3rd party data sources, cloud providers, and applications in a variety of languages
  • Develop and deliver technical enablement content for sellers and sales engineers
  • Speak at virtual or in-person events to promote and evangelize Splunk’s Observability solutions
  • Participate in online communities & forums with target audiences
  • Partner with product management, engineering and marketing team members to drive Splunk thought leadership

Skill Requirements

  • 3+ years combined experience in technical marketing, developer evangelism or other practitioner-focused marketing roles or time spent as an SRE, DevOps/Cloud engineer or software developer/engineer. If you’ve been on-call, that time counts double.
  • Hands-on experience with Observability tools, including infrastructure monitoring, application performance monitoring, AIOps, incident response, and logging tools
  • Strong understanding of modern infrastructure technologies, including virtual machines, containers, Kubernetes, public and private cloud, microservices, serverless functions, and service meshes
  • Strong understanding of software development, debugging, optimization, and/or troubleshooting - hands-on experience with common programming languages preferred
  • Customer champion, with a drive to go above and beyond to ensure awareness of our products, then successful adoption and onboarding
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong affinity for technical writing
  • Ability to explain technical concepts succinctly to people at all levels
  • Love of learning, strong team spirit, and willingness to self-start.
  • Ability to travel to industry conferences, customer visits, sales meetings, and other U.S. and international destinations (where appropriate and as necessary)

The screening process for this role will include: a phone interview with a recruiter, a virtual interview with the hiring manager, and a short writing sample task. (If you have other published work, we may be able to accept that in lieu of a writing sample.) Finally, you’ll go through one set of virtual interviews with peers and cross-functional team members.
