The Workflow Engine team makes it easier and faster to write asynchronous, stateful workflows that are both reliable and fault-oblivious. Our platform abstracts away challenging distributed system complexities and enables Stripe engineers to focus on the critical business logic they’re responsible for. Workflows power products such as Stripe Capital, Billing, and Connect, as well as many mission critical control planes.

As an engineering manager on the Workflow Engine team, you will lead the expansion of the service platform’s asynchronous execution capabilities, making asynchronous systems easy to build, resilient, and scalable. You will care deeply about the productivity of the engineers using our systems and challenge the team you support to provide an amazing developer experience. You will work with product and infrastructure engineering teams across Stripe to ensure that the Workflow Engine roadmap sustainably supports their objectives.

We’re looking for engineering leaders that thrive in highly autonomous environments with many moving pieces and that are motivated to drive the technical vision of Stripe’s Workflow Engine.

You will:

• Ensure that the Workflow Engine roadmap sustainably supports Stripe’s product engineering objectives
• Recruit, hire, scale, and develop an amazing team of engineers
• Be actively involved in strategic direction and platform decisions that impact all of Stripe and Stripe customers
• Facilitate rapid iteration on features, tooling, and processes as we launch first versions of new asynchronous capabilities
• Support ICs engineering APIs, developer-facing experiences, services, and systems
• Drive operational excellence across your team

You may be a fit for this role if:

• You’ve built diverse teams to tackle challenging technical problems and:
• Have at least 3 years of engineering management experience and 8 years of overall software development experience
• Have experience managing diverse stakeholder relationships with competing priorities
• Think of yourself as entrepreneurial and enjoy moving quickly on new, green-field initiatives
• Are passionate about developer experience
• Are results driven and pragmatic
• Thrive in a collaborative and diverse environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts
• Have experience working with distributed systems, especially Temporal / Cadence or other workflow orchestration systems

Projects your team may work on:

• Designing and building client SDKs for developers all over Stripe.
• Improving, deploying, scaling, and managing services and databases.
• Contributing to open source frameworks.
