About the Position

Sumo Logic is committed to supporting the developer community, open source, and open standards. In support of this we are hiring for a dedicated Developer Advocate to join a team focused on helping us live up to this commitment. Our goal is to help developers be successful and understand how the Sumo Logic platform can help them achieve their goals around secureability and reliability. We are looking for a person who enjoys communicating in all mediums, likes to code, and wants to make a significant impact through their work.

As a Sumo Logic Developer Advocate you’ll be responsible for community engagement in person, in communities and through content creation. As a highly visible external voice for Sumo you will act as part of an important feedback loop listening and understanding problems modern developers are facing. You will identify opportunities to participate in communities and/or influence the Sumo product roadmap to improve the overall Sumo Logic DX. You will create content that helps educate and share expertise with the community at large. In addition this role will be in a position to help Sumo better understand how to serve the developer audience through our outreach, digital properties, and other investments. In this role you will have the opportunity to be creative and leverage your experience and expertise to shape the plan and priorities.

About You

Our ideal candidate will meet most of the following qualifications.

• Engage with the Community. Become an active member of the open source observability Community, helping new and expert developers alike by responding to questions or leading conversations in GitHub, Discourse, and Slack. Advocate for users by sharing feedback with our Product and Engineering teams to help improve the Sumo UX/DX. Participate in live events and seek opportunities to speak and lead sessions.
• Contribute Code & Content. Lead our public storytelling by finding and sharing user stories from the community, or developing your own stories by demonstrating how to use Sumo with other popular tools and platforms in various mediums. Work directly with the community to write code that helps bridge open source projects and the Sumo platform as well as contribute to projects that improve the Sumo experience.
• Become an ecosystem subject matter expert. Today's multi-cloud world is full of compelling technologies, frameworks, and platforms. Take the time to become an expert with one or more of these components (e.g. Kubernetes) to serve as an internal SME, and/or use that expertise to help our users.
• Engage directly with Users. Interact with new and experienced Sumo users in a one-on-one capacity, from demonstrating how Sumo works in video conferences with new and prospective users, to occasional engagement in customer support requests, to on-site tutorials and engineering collaborations.

Technical

• Knowledge and experience contributing to Open Source is a requirement. Experience communicating with community members in GitHub issues and PRs is preferred. Git-fu is welcome, but not required.
• Experience contributing to projects in at least one programming language (e.g. Golang, Javascript, Python, or Bash – fluency is not expected). Although we don't and won't expect you to be an expert in them, our programming languages of choice are Golang and Javascript, and you should have a willingness to learn these well enough to develop simple code examples using them.
• Hands-on experience with cloud native technologies like Kubernetes and Docker in production environments is a major plus.
