Who We Are Looking For:
Electric cars aren’t a fad, they’re the future -- and our Cars Section Editor will guide our audience into this new chapter of transportation with authority.
After years of covering the industry broadly, Digital Trends is refining its focus to solely cover the world of EVs and PHEVs. That means the Cars Section Editor has a different mandate than traditional automotive publications. You’ll explain to readers how to navigate the perks and pitfalls of going electric, what’s going on with the hottest automakers in the space, how EVs work, and also how tech affects transportation when you’re not behind the wheel. Think maintenance, navigation, automotive apps, firmware updates and more.
DT’s Cars section will be the go-to site for news, opinions, features, reviews, and analysis of the EV world. Coverage will span from Tesla to Kia, everyday commuters to supercars, and on-the-lot models to futuristic concepts.
This new world of EVs and PHEVs is exciting, but for anyone who’s spent their life pumping gas instead of plugging in, it’s all a bit daunting. DT’s Cars coverage will throw out a welcome mat for first-time EV buyers, while providing up-to-the-minute news for enthusiasts who want to know what’s next. We'll also cover the infrastructure that affects EV owners, from electricity rates and home charger installs, to shifts in battery and solar panel technologies.
Section Editors are leaders. You’ll run a team of staff writers and freelance contributors, decide where to focus resources, make calls on what events we should cover, and maintain a coverage calendar. You’ll take the long view and plan coverage months in advance, integrating research from a wide range of teams. Yet you’ll also have to make split-second decisions when unexpected news breaks.
Section Editors are expected to share their industry knowledge with the Digital Trends audience via multiple media channels, growing their industry presence using popular digital platforms.
This is a remote position, but we have a preference for candidates near one of our offices in Portland, New York City, Los Angeles, or Chicago. Regardless of location, candidates should be willing to travel regularly as in-person meetings and events return.
