This is your opportunity to be part of the legal team supporting Viasat’s satellite based broadband internet services in Brazil across its various market segments – residential, enterprise, government, aviation and community internet.

Viasat seeks an experienced attorney for its in-house legal department in São Paulo, Brazil to work with Viasat’s Global Fixed Broadband Segment teams located in Brazil, the United States and Europe. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work at all levels of the Company and grow into a leadership position. The focus of this position will be legal support in the areas of telecommunications regulatory and privacy compliance, as well as related administrative and litigation matters. Additionally, this attorney will be asked to support corporate and general litigation. Some assignments will require advanced English language skills. The ideal candidates will have strong writing, analytical and legal research skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with others across business units and manage multiple projects with tight deadlines. This attorney needs to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent tight deadlines, changing roles and responsibilities, and collaborating with internal clients and partners.

Specifically, the right candidate must be able to:

  • Provide advice to all levels of Viasat in the areas of telecommunications regulation and related administrative and litigation matters, and communicate legal concepts in a way that non-lawyers can understand.
  • Create and implement strategies for compliance with government regulatory requirements and favorable resolution of regulatory and consumer disputes.
  • Track and ensure compliance with regulatory and privacy requirements from all applicable government agencies.
  • Analyze cases and supervise outside counsel in the handling of litigation matters.
  • Provide legal support for the group’s expanding international operations.
  • Assist in other general transactional and corporate matters as necessary.

Requirements
  • Law degree from a recognized and respected law school
  • Between 6 and 8 years of experience as a licensed member of a Brazilian bar association
  • Experience with a 1 st tier law firm and/or corporate legal department
  • Strong experience with the regulation of the telecommunications and satellite industries (specifically broadband internet), privacy laws, and the requirements of the related regulatory agencies such as ANATEL, CADE, ANPD and Procon
  • Experience analyzing and preparing responses to regulatory agency requests;
  • Strong drafting and negotiations skill in both Portuguese and English
  • Experience analyzing and supervising litigation in the areas of regulatory, privacy and consumer protection
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; must be able to ask clear, concise questions involving complex technology to get requisite answers from business partners and Legal Department colleagues
  • Ability to take initiative and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced corporate environment
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and maintain attention to detail;
  • Strong ability to work in teams and build good working relationships
  • Written and spoken fluency in Portuguese and English
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, including international travel
Preferences
  • Familiarity with labor and tax matters
  • Post graduate degree in public, regulatory, privacy, or intellectual property law
  • Experience using contract lifecycle management software
  • Fluent Spanish language skills.
