Job Description
Spotify is seeking a Tech & Telco industry leader to fill the Global Category Development Officer role. The ideal candidate will have significant industry expertise; preferably in brand and media, understands the industry landscape and what drives consumer behavior, and will be able to translate that understanding into a strategic approach. Working closely with the Global Category Development team, internal marketing, product development and research & measurement teams, you will help identify category-specific strategic opportunities and champion Spotify’s presence. The ideal candidate will also have an intuitive understanding of “what’s next” for the industry and will be able to make sure our verticalized local market sales teams are in front of client needs, creating meaningful innovation and the strategic approach for the category that leads to greater customer value and growth. You are the narrator of Spotify’s broad solutions for the category and the voice of Spotify to the industry, providing thought-leadership and high-touch client engagement. You have proven to be a voice in the industry and maintained a network of (senior) marketing and media leads within key brands. You are comfortable presenting at events and client meetings.
What You'll Do
- Gain and maintain a holistic view of the categories performance: revenues, formats, markets, as well as other KPIs you deem necessary for decision making for you and other leads.
- Influence buyer behaviors across Spotify’s appropriate vertical client base
- Help define Spotify’s strategic approach to the respective industry
- Maximize revenue to the vertical through the creation and marketing of products and services targeted specifically to industry needs
- Strategic support to local verticalized sales teams framing narrative and activation strategies
- Report on industry trends and buyer insights from relevant research and use that to underpin your recommendations
- Maintain Spotify’s sales narrative in partnership with Spotify Advertising Business Marketing
- Align with R&D and product marketing teams to build scalable product solutions
- Provide strategic client engagement, thought leadership, and solutions to core client needs
- Understand global category needs and refine regional strategy as needed
- Support defined regional Spotify leadership teams, providing commercial support, strategic guidance and category leadership
- Be the voice of Spotify category expertise at key client events and industry speaking engagements
Who You Are
- 10+ years of experience working in the industry’s advertising and marketing space, leading and designing strategy and driving measurable results, preferably at a key Telco or global Tech brand.
- Deep industry domain expertise, working in or with category leaders at the CMO level
- Ability to interpret and action marketing analytics and insights and succinctly translate this into actionable recommendations and plans
- Strong analytical and business intelligence skills with a strong foundation of data and communicating the benefits of marketing opportunities to brands
- Creative problem solver who is highly adaptable to change
- Deep collaborator who has expertly navigated complex, matrixed organizations, demonstrating their ability to influence others and build trust
- Comfortable with key decision makers and C-level executives, inside and outside of Spotify
- Easy navigator of tools like Google Slides, Salesforce, Slack and proficient in using these to get stuff done
- Frequent regional travel, some global travel required
- Highly motivated to achieve results in a team environment
- Comfort navigating the “grey areas” of a changing landscape
- Operates with honesty and sound judgment

- Relates well to all levels of an organization
- High level of agility; comfort with ambiguity and constant change
