Providence is calling a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 to its Medical Surgical at Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, OR. This is a full-time, night shift position. The schedule is 3, 12 hour shifts per week from 7pm-7:30am. You will participate in the team's weekend rotation. $4,000 hiring bonus and relocation assistance for eligible external candidates who meet all conditions for payment - this is in addition to the fantastic benefits and compensation package offered by Providence that begin on your first day of employment.

Providence Medford Medical Center is a certified Level 3 trauma center and nationally recognized for excellent stroke care. Our Medical/Surgical unit (2 East) is a 35 bed inpatient unit that provides care for a combination of general medical and post-surgical patients. Our nurses care for a wide variety of diagnoses and surgical procedures, making it an excellent learning environment. In addition, the unit sees a small population of oncology and pediatric patients as we continue to grow those service lines. 2 East is a fast paced, team oriented unit with a strong commitment to delivering safe, quality patient care.

We are seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (to assist a Registered Nurse (RN) in providing comprehensive nursing care by performing specified duties and functions under the direct supervision of the RN.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

DIAGNOSTIC AND MONITORING FUNCTION:

  • Demonstrate accuracy in measuring vital signs and other essential parameters that vary from normal parameters
  • Use responsive observation to:
  • Identify findings, patterns, habits, and behaviors that deviate from normal in acute care patients
  • Identify, from scenarios and lists, normal and abnormal patterns and changes in findings related to a patient. Patient descriptors include: mental status (orientation, psychosocial responses, and level of consciousness), vital signs, mobility, skin, pain level, bowel and bladder function, appetite, and activities of daily living
  • Report and record abnormal findings, patterns, habits, and behaviors of acute care patients
  • Take action within designated responsibilities and as directed by the RN for abnormal findings, patterns, habits and behaviors of acute care patients

CARING:

  • Perform comfort and pain relief measures within the designated scope of responsibility according to care plan
  • Demonstrate initial skill in active listening, reflecting, and rephrasing in a variety of clinical situations
  • Demonstrate supportive presence with dying patient/family
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Consistently demonstrate scheduling of patient activities when the client is comfortable
  • Address emotional needs as designated in care plan
  • Identify and report signs of abuse, neglect and/or mistreatment

TEACHING/COACHING:

  • Demonstrate ability to share knowledge and skills with others
  • Demonstrate initial skill in active listening, reflecting, and rephrasing in a variety of clinical situations
  • Demonstrate respect for rights and property of patient and co-workers

ADMINISTERING AND MONITORING THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTIONS AND REGIMENS:

  • Take action within designated responsibilities and as directed by the RN for abnormal findings, patterns, habits and behaviors of acute care patients
  • Perform comfort and pain relief measures within the designated scope of responsibility according to care plan
  • Consistently report change of vital signs, orientation, mobility and behavior following pain treatment

MONITORING AND ENSURING THE QUALITY OF HEALTH CARE PRACTICES:

  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Demonstrate appropriate paper and electronic charting
  • Articulate, using own words, the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals as they apply to CNA practice
  • Consistently demonstrate clinical behaviors congruent with the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals
  • Apply safety concepts in the workplace
  • Prevent staff and patient injuries through consistent use of patient lifts, patient transfer equipment, and good body mechanic techniques

ORGANIZATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Complete all required and assigned education and training
  • Maintain competence in work assignment per nurse manager and supervising nurses
  • Remain current with system, region, facility, and unit based credentialing, education, and competencies
  • Identify area/needs for education, development and growth
  • Seek opportunities for clinical and personal development in CNA role

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Coursework/Training: Completion of Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) recognized Acute Care Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (CNA 2) course, -OR-
  • CNA 2 coursework: Grandfathered to CNA 2 per OSBN requirements
  • Active and unencumbered license in the state of Oregon as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Current BLS certification.
  • New onboarding caregivers must have a current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • One (1) year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (CNA 2)
