The Role: Xylem is seeking Intern Candidates with a Software Engineering or Data Science background to join our Data Lake/Data Science team of Full stack cloud sofware Engineers/Data Scientists. As a member of our Team, the incumbent will design, develop and test software applications or machine learning algorithms running in our Amazon Web Services Cloud environment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to succeed in a fast paced, fluid environment, while ensuring that project initiatives are met. *This will be a 10 week internship position located near a Xylem facility based on the locations listed on the job posting*

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

• Wants to build game-changing software applications and analytics tools
• Takes great personal pride in building robust software
• Has strong sense of ownership and drive
• Is passionate about applications, analytics, storage and distributed systems
• Enjoys working in a fast-paced agile environment using Scrum
• Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Has strong customer focus
• Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

• Attending an accredited University studying toward a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Minimum rising junior in standing
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• Exposure to object-oriented design and coding languages such as Java, and/or C++, preferably on a Linux platform developing Systems software
• Exposure to data structures and algorithms OR Exposure to Machine Learning algorithms/techniques/libraries if the candidate prefers to do data science work.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of engineers to meet aggressive goals and high-quality standards
• Demonstrated experience working with cross functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Have knowledge of basic security considerations when developing enterprise software
• Have experience with online distributed systems and platform infrastructure design and implementation
• Have experience using SQL
• Have experience with Amazon Web Services
