Act as a key resource in support of the Supply Chain teams to develop and maintain sources of supply to improve cost competitiveness, remove supply constraints and be a conduit between the company and the supplier. Responsibilities will include cross-functional project management supporting issues with current production and/or business process, developing suppliers to reduce cost, increase capacity, and auditing suppliers to ensure process conformance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish partnerships at all levels within the supplier, emphasizing collaboration, clear expectations, common goals, trust and transparency
  • Responsible for ensuring supply base is capable and prepared to support production rates on all programs.
  • Interface with internal stakeholders to prioritize supplier development needs with a focus on removing supply constraints and improving cost
  • Assess new and existing supplier capabilities to meet product, cost, quality, capacity and fulfillment ensuring suppliers are able to meet requirements for performance, quality, cost and delivery of components Drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies to drive systematic problem solving and process improvement plans to deliver value
  • Partner with suppliers to lead continuous improvement, problem solving, waste elimination, and other value-enhancing opportunities.
  • Drive business process improvements between Collins and the suppliers.
  • Work with suppliers to lead improvement of their manufacturing processes to reduce cycle times, improve throughput and quality, and ultimately meet the requirements for the Collins Aerospace Supplier Gold Program.
  • Support the relationship management of Strategic Partners and Preferred suppliers.
  • Partner with Commodity Managers to identify savings opportunities through VA/VE Work with Commodity Managers and Design/Project Engineers to coordinate sourcing strategies and ensure a smooth and timely manufacturing ramp-up on new programs.
  • Track the supplier’s performance indicators, based on their scorecards and rankings, to facilitate and develop the supply base’s ability to consistently meet or exceed defined expectations
  • Develop positive relationships and work closely with internal stakeholders such as Tactical Purchasing, SCM Customer Account Managers, Commodity/Strategy, Engineering, and Operations
  • Deliver results as measured by key metrics, such as supplier yield, lead time improvements, supplier quality plan engagement/effectiveness, and corrective & preventative action closure
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to sourcing and development of suppliers with respect to technology, performance, quality, cost, logistics and delivery
  • Provide leadership during investigations of major problems and or special projects focusing on developing working relationships with suppliers and the supply chain with regard to product development and procurement of parts
  • Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concern product quality
  • Assist suppliers with process development and/or troubleshooting of programming, tooling, fixturing, and processes for specific Commodities (Plastics, Composites)
  • Assist suppliers and sub-tiers with development and/or troubleshooting of secondary Suppliers and/or processes
  • Support the selection, development, and management of Strategic & Preferred Suppliers to meet commodity cost and performance goals.
  • Implement programs for supplier performance management, supplier Lean journeys and supply base optimization.
  • Partner with suppliers to lead continuous improvement, problem solving, waste elimination, and other value-enhancing opportunities.
  • Champion value analysis for purchased products and propose/lead design and process improvement projects to reduce costs.
  • Make design and manufacturing recommendations in the new product development process, support concurrent engineering activities between supplier and internal product development teams.
  • Ensure appropriate risk mitigation activities are completed timely
  • Contribute to additional continuous improvement activities
  • Travel: 40%

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
