About the role

As a member of the company leadership team, the Vice President, Controller, will champion the accounting team as a true partner for delivering business results across the organization. You will work hand in hand with Commercial, Product, G&A, and more as an advisor, consultant, and business partner to the company.

You will join our team as an expert in Accounting with duties ranging from the theoretical, such as interpreting accounting standards and developing guidance, to hands-on work, including year-end closes. Syapse is growing quickly, and our needs continue to evolve so you will need to balance flexibility with bringing a stable presence to control our finances. Your long term vision will keep the team on track while you efficiently execute to meet the day-to-day challenges.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

• Company-wide accounting operations
• Developing exceptional business partnerships with departments across the company
• Growing, managing, and providing career development for an accounting team including overseeing outsourced providers
• Developing internal controls, processes, and applying GAAP accounting procedures
• Refining and executing on the month, quarterly, and year-end close process
• Financial Reporting to multiple stakeholders including Department head, executive management, Board of Directors, investors, and lenders
• Selecting and implementing new account systems
• Managing the annual financial audit, working with the audit committee, and assisting with other audits
• Technical expertise: staying up to date on accounting standards and best practices; analyzing, writing GAAP policy memos or managing outside technical accounting memos;
• Researching & recommending appropriate international tax strategy
• Ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local tax & legal requirements

What you bring to the table

• Significant experience as Controller/Head of Accounting role with notable successes
• A passion for leading teams and growing people
• A roll-up-your-sleeves mentality and exceptional hands on skills
• Demonstrated progression in managing complex projects
• A strong playbook for building business partnerships and supporting business objectives within multiple cross-functional departments
• Accounting expertise:
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
• CPA
• Big 4 accounting background including public company audits
• Technical accounting experience
• Ability to productively use cloud-based applications

Bonus points if you

• Technology industry experience, ideally coupled with Consulting Services
• Went through an IPO process
• Have used NetSuite or other cloud-based accounting systems

Syapse is a Remote-First company. What does that mean? Simply, we hire team members anywhere regulations allow and assume everyone will work from home full time. Unless expressly stated otherwise, Syapse hires need to be located and perform their job in the United States. Some folks travel, some may eventually gather in person in areas where we have a critical mass of employees, and of course we’re excited to get together as departments and as a whole company throughout the year in person. But you, and the rest of Team Syapse, will mostly work from home.
