Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in design or human-computer interaction, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in UX design, or 13 years with an advanced degree.
  • 4 years of experience managing UX managers and growing design teams.
  • Portfolio of UX-focused work samples.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 20 years of professional experience.
  • Experience working in technical environments, and influencing across different functions and levels.
  • Knowledge that enables ideation and development of creative and innovative solutions.
  • Knowledge of Google’s products.
  • Ability to listen, articulate positions, and advocate for users and designs.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, facilitation, and presentation skills.

About the job

The Identity team is responsible for Google Account, the connective tissue across all Google products that enables Google to be more than the sum of its parts. As the UX Design Director, you and your team will enable personalized experiences for billions of users across Google products and thousands of third-party products across every device type. You will play a critical role in user trust and have a critical role in keeping user accounts safe from hackers and the Google account is where users make choices on how their data is used. In this role, you will lead a team to design experiences that reaches nearly every Google user and every user type - from kids to business users. Our work is wide ranging and exceptionally impactful.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Define User Experience (UX) vision, multi-year experience strategy, and approach for Identity customer insights to surface strategic opportunities that will drive user and business value.
  • Partner and advise design leaders across Google on Identity and Account-related initiatives.
  • Lead, develop, inspire, and grow a diverse global design team, including managers.
  • Serve as the overall cross-UX lead for Identity by representing and advocating for the user and the UX discipline, demonstrating and measuring the impact of UX, representing UX for annual planning, strategy, and more.
  • Build relationships with Product Management, Engineering and Program Management Director peers to develop vision, annual strategy, and objectives and key results, responding to business and user needs as well as industry/market changes.
