About the job

Google Pixel Camera is a challenging, impactful, and highly visible project at Google. Our team is looking for strong Android engineers who are looking for opportunities to work on difficult and impactful projects for Google Pixel. On this team you will get the opportunity to work with a great set of engineers and partner teams across Android and Google while working on projects that will have a direct, measurable impact on Pixel. Our team is extremely focused on the performance, reliability, and quality of Pixel Camera, and we enable teams to rapidly prototype, build, and ship many of the new features you see in Pixel Camera today.

Cameras are at the center of our digital lives. They are ubiquitous on nearly every smartphone device in the world, and they power everything from capturing precious memories, social interaction, sharing, visual intelligence, documentation, and more. People expect the camera to work quickly and consistently each time they use it, and that quality bar goes up with each new device. Smartphones are evolving and the camera units are becoming more complex. It's become normal for the camera to be composed of multiple sensors and lenses working together to behave as a single unit. Our team is responsible for packaging up that complexity, optimizing for it, and providing it as a foundation for teams at Google to use when building fast, production quality camera experiences.

Google is and always will be an engineering company. We hire people with a broad set of technical skills who are ready to take on some of technology's greatest challenges and make an impact on millions, if not billions, of users. At Google, engineers not only revolutionize search, they routinely work on massive scalability and storage solutions, large-scale applications and entirely new platforms for developers around the world. From Google Ads to Chrome, Android to YouTube, Social to Local, Google engineers are changing the world one technological achievement after another.

Responsibilities

  • Design, integrate, and optimize a set of Pixel-specific camera extensions.
  • Work cross-functionally with Android Camera Framework teams.
  • Develop and deploy Pixel-specific application bundles that will provide access to the Pixel Camera control and rendering stack.
  • Develop proof of concept applications that showcase the process, performance, and behavior of these camera extensions.
  • Improve and optimize the usage of these camera extensions for specific use cases.
