About the team:

The Global Innovation team’s mission is to identify, grow, and nurture future businesses that present growth opportunities for General Motors. Building on our recent key wins with OnStar Guardian, OnStar Insurance and OnStar Vehicle Insights, we are looking to build more robust processes to drive efficiency across our business lines, ensure key milestone delivery, and accelerate growth. Project and Program Management teams are responsible for the delivery of the output/product of the program, which will involve managing a portfolio of projects and programs. Coordinate the teams who are working on the various projects.

About the role:

The Innovation Assistant Program Manager leads program management activities across Global Innovation innovation disciplines lines of business (example: mobile, home/voice, motorcycle, alternate mobility) within the Global Innovation team. The role requires the framing, development, and analysis of issues for program leadership decisions. Issues may include product definition or positioning, partner selection, business case development, workload balancing, and program plan development and timing. The program manager This role will lead key forums (ex. Program Execution Team) meetings &and work closely with the cross functional teams (product, business, tech, legal, marketing, etc.) teams to identify project plans, timelines, and key milestones. The Program manager will lead periodic project progress reviews to identify issues regarding timing, resources, budget, and strategic fit. Additionally, the Assistant Program Manager will be the common thread to identify optimization opportunities across innovation with our research, customer engagement, architecture, and system development activities.

Job Details:

A successful candidate will demonstrate ability to develop and establish implement strong program management activities across one or many innovation projects. Responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in development of innovation processes inclusive of gates and milestones
  • Leverage GDVP/CX/GMF process and best practices across GM
  • Lead the team to execute innovation gates and milestones
  • Work with project leads to install processes and tools and tailor them as needed
  • Partner with business leads on priority projects and ensure deliverables are met
  • Longer term, enable business leads to focus on innovation strategy, product engagement and driving more new business opportunities
  • Frame and drive product and other decisions balancing customer and business considerations
  • Communicate clearly through standalone presentations, leadership reviews, and team meetings
  • This role involves independent judgment and ingenuity. The ability to work cross functionally and with various partners is needed.
  • This role could support one or multiple Global Innovation projects/ businesses (OnStar Insurance, OnStar Guardian, Future Products, etc.)

Additional Job Description

Required Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience with Program Management for complex projects
  • Strong framing and communication skills
  • Software/Technical undergraduate degree preferred
  • (If applicable) Experience within General Motors Planning (GDVDP/CX/GMF) or Program Management preferred or equivalent experience (i.e. PMI certification)
  • Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally with complex products
  • Understanding of many aspects of the digital product development: including knowledge of Software Development, SAFe Agile, System Operations, Marketing, Contact Center Operations, Marketing, Finance and Planning

Education:

  • Bachelors degree
  • MBA or equivalent is preferred
