What is the opportunity?

The RBC Team in Halifax will be hiring for multiple Senior Technical Systems Analyst roles on the Financial Crimes, Finance IT, Risk IT, Fraud and Insurance teams. This role will require you to be located in the Halifax / Nova Scotia region and be able to commute to the office if needed. As a Senior Technical Systems Analyst you provide support for a suite of business mission-critical and complex applications, understanding both front and back-end of the applications. The technology platform spans the breadth of Windows and Linux platforms, Python / Java environments and MS SQL and Oracle platforms.

What will you do?

• Develop and deploy reliable technical solutions in small to medium sized deliverables through the project lifecycle
• Assess, research and analyze business and system needs, exploring alternative options to recommend technology solutions and designs that meet sponsor needs while considering component re-usability, data sharing, end user experience, performance and security
• Drive application change and modernization
• Prepare high level and detailed technical specifications
• Leverage best-practices in continuous integration and delivery to improve quality and velocity
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities and drive project progress and benefits
• Support implementation of DevOPS practices and tools and review / write code in either Python, Java or shell scripting to support business needs and requirements.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

• Inquisitive nature and desire to learn and grow
• Strong programming experience in multi-tier applications based on Python, Java, Shell Scripting
• Experience with relational database programming (e.g. Oracle or SQL Server)
• Experience building DevOps pipelines (GitHub, Jenkins, Nexus, etc)
• Experience with Spark, Spring or Angular Framework
• Self-motivated – driven to get results, takes initiative and needs minimum oversight.

Nice-to-have

• 1 -2 years of experience with SQL environments and SQL Query.
• 1 -2 years of experience with Python or Java programming, Shell Scripting
• ITIL Framework
• Microservices or APIGee experience.
• 1 -2 years of experience with middleware technologies such as MQ, REST API’s
• Experience working in an agile environment
