Job Description

With the right combination of technical and business skills, the solution architect is a pivotal role that sits between the business and technology. It is a highly technical position with the responsibility to design complex business systems based on prioritized business needs. This role is an effective leader and facilitator, adept at tailoring documentation and design diagrams based on the audience. The Solution Architect will be accountable for solution design and documentation of integration strategy, tradeoffs, and implications (short-term, long-term) accounting for time, cost along with technical and business ramifications. The Architect also coordinates any internal technical dependencies and will work with business, product and engineering leaders to orchestrate an implementation strategy and roadmap that incrementally delivers business value.

General Qualifications

    • Proven experience creating integrated solutions (preferably for ecommerce, retail or supply chain)
    • Solid experience with solutions options analysis and documenting tradeoffs
    • Very skilled and comfortable using documentation and design diagrams to communicate ideas and facilitate brainstorming sessions
    • Verifiable understanding of software architecture fundamentals and modern techniques in building or putting together integrated systems and solutions
    • Worked with dev/product/platform teams in hands-on development or integration work within the last 5 years. This ensures understanding/empathy on the short-term and long-term implications of software designs to actual code.
    • Experience in leading complex, cross-functional problem-solving initiatives.
    • Strong understanding of system deployment and development patterns for scale including CI/CD, and resiliency engineering.
    • Extensive knowledge of security domain, standards, and trends.
    • Experience in an agile development environment within a product model.
    • Experience with a variety of software stacks/technologies including but not limited to various cloud services.
    • Experience with working directly with Product Management and Business Leaders on capability sequencing, scoping, and dependency mapping.
    • Must be able to manage multiple projects utilizing strong planning and organizational skills
    • Proven team facilitation, business case development, strong business analysis, process mapping, and business process redesigning skills
    • Systems implementation skills include requirements/process analysis, conceptual and detailed design, configuration, and troubleshooting
    • Combination of solid technical skills with business solution pragmatism.
    • Pragmatic, practical and solution oriented.

Technical Leadership

    • Stays current on emerging technical trends, patterns, and solutions – cloud-first; CI/CD and devops automation, micro-services, serverless, headless-ecommerce, etc.
    • Be a thought-leader and influencer, coaching technical teams, engineers and the business leaders
    • Acts as the end-to-end technical architecture lead for initiatives to communicate design, context, and considerations, including hands-on development of proofs-of-concept and reference architectures.
    • Recommends, leads, and participates in solution architecture work for domains ensuring that the architecture strategy is consistent with long-term business objectives.
    • Drive execution for business initiatives including documentation, roadmaps, communication, and alignment of domain architecture into business, product and technical plans.

Education/Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer science or other Engineering fields
    • 5 to 7 years of experience as a technical architect for a major technology implementation.
