Magic Leap is looking for a Lead Optical Design Engineer. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the optical design and realization of complex optical modules. As Lead Optical Design Engineer, you will work with an experienced cross-functional team to design innovative leading edge optical components for AR/MR devices. The team features a collaborative and hands-on environment that fosters engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation in the interdisciplinary areas of optical design and testing, device fabrication, display technologies, image processing, and color sciences.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years’ experience in optical design with a strong background in aberration theory, image quality, optimization, tolerancing, design for manufacture and optical simulations
• Emphasis and proven experience on shepherding devices through iterative stages of concept, design/modeling, design for manufacture / design to cost, manufacturing support and field assessment
• Working knowledge of optical metrology methods and instrumentation.
• Experience in the establishment and documentation of test requirements of optical systems and components
• Proficiency in commercial optical design software tools (e.g. Zemax, CodeV, Lighttools)
• Experience in one or more scientific computer languages (e.g. Matlab, C++/C#, Python)
• Basic knowledge of designing optical systems with diffractive or nano-structured surfaces
• Excellent creative/analytical & critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Experience in working with international, cross-functional teams
• Good written and verbal communication skills

Education:

• Ph.D. in optical engineering, or M.S. with 3+ years proven optical design experience
