Abbott established a diagnostics manufacturing facility in Sligo in 1994 to manufacture blood-screening products and reagents. In 2004, Abbott’s operations in Ireland expanded with the opening of a second facility in Longford. The plant was first occupied in December 2004, and the first product (Architect® TSH) was launched in December of 2005. The Longford facility plays a key role in helping Abbott to meet the increasing global demand for diagnostic testing in areas such as infectious disease, cancer, thyroid and cardiovascular diseases. Abbott in Longford manufactures 18 diagnostic reagent products for thyroid function, fertility, and pregnancy, cardiology, renal and metabolic. Our products are manufactured to the highest standards of quality and are regulated by bodies such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

• This position is responsible for the provision of an effective manufacturing engineering function to AIDD Longford and supervision of manufacturing and facilities technicians/engineers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain ETMS TO DO LIST.

• Conduct business in a manner that will protect human health, safety and the environment by complying with all applicable EHS laws, as well at the Abbott Global and Technical standards.

• Responsible for development of manufacturing automation solutions in our kit pack and fill/label areas. Also the design, purchase, and qualification of the equipment.

• Manage the calibration dept and ensure compliance to quality system.

• Ensure maintenance schedules are set up and the PM schedule is adhered too.

• Supervision of manufacturing technicians and project engineers.

• Develop goals, growth plans, and ensure operations have engineering cover as required.

• Supervision of team of mechanical and electrical technicians to provide an effective and compliant facility service for Longford.

• Manage and coordinate external contractors as required from supplier agreements.

• Liaise with internal/external engineering personnel and contract maintenance providers in maintaining trouble shooting and installing/commissioning equipment.

• Prepare and approve SOPs developed in support of process engineering and maintenance.

• Work for successful external, Division and Corporate audits.

• Preparation of capital expenditure requests for the plant.

• Communicate effectively with plant management, corporate and division engineering.

EDUCATION & COMPETENCIES:

• Third level qualification in Engineering or related discipline is required for this role.

• Experience in an engineering environment in a related industry for at least five years including substantial experience in managing people will provide a good understanding of the business.
