Job Description
KPMG is currently seeking a Manager or Senior Manager to join our Trade and Customs practice.
Responsibilities:
- Meet with and provide advice to clients, in a variety of industries, on export compliance matters
- Lead and manage client projects including export classifications, audits, reviews, program development, and training among other areas
- Lead and manage teams to deliver high quality work
- Support market development and thought leadership initiatives including articles
- Research, write, and review advice, specifically in the area of export compliance
- Manage project engagement including assembling teams, overseeing work and full engagement responsibilities
- Aid in the management, career development and training of team members
Additional Responsibilities for Senior Manager:
- Oversee market, practice and business development
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of direct consulting experience in export compliance (e.g., EAR and ITAR) including deemed exports, export jurisdiction and classification of complex products, licenses and other ITAR/EAR export authorizations, technology control plans, Consent Agreements, export controls and sanctions risk assessments and audits, and developing sustainable export compliance programs as an attorney, trade consultant, in-house professional, or government official
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or a minimum of 20 years of comparable experience, or (JD / LLM degree is preferred): CBL (Customs Brokers License)** issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, CUSICO (Certified U.S. Import Compliance Officer)**, CUSECO (Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer)**, Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)** certification issued by the National Customs Broker and Forwarders Association of America, CPA, MBA, or JD/LLM (Please note that any candidate hired by KPMG into this position that doesn't currently possess one of the aforementioned credentials/designations will be required to secure one within one year from the commencement of employment)
- Outstanding and in-depth experience with U.S. export control regulations with the ability to address complex matters with practical and operational advice and solutions
- General export control and sanctions experience, in areas such as export control compliance audits/review and assessments, voluntary self-disclosures, advisory opinion requests, classification, and developing a trade compliance framework
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication/presentation skills with strong technical skills with the ability to plan and conduct in-depth reviews of transactional data using data and analytics preferred; consulting experience in a leading tax/advisory or trade law firm is highly preferred
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally
Additional Qualifications for Senior Manager:
- A minimum of eight years of direct consulting experience in export compliance (e.g., EAR and ITAR) including deemed exports, export justification and classification of complex projects, licenses and other ITAR/EAR export authorizations, technology control plans, Consent Agreements, ITAR brokering, Congressional Notification, EAR de minimis guidelines and developing sustainable export compliance programs as an attorney, trade expert consultant, in-house professional, or government official
- Demonstrated success in consulting with direct client development and management
