About this role

We are seeking a highly motivated and seasoned professional and leader to serve as the Head of Latin America Compliance.

The ideal candidate will have significant knowledge of the applicable regulatory requirements and expectations, with a focus on Mexico, Brazil, Columbia, Chile, and Peru. In addition, certain sales activities also occur in Panama, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. The individual will manage a regional team responsible for implementation and enhancement of BlackRock’s Latin America Compliance Program such as risk identification and mitigation, policies and procedures, and conflicts of interest. Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience with the Normative Controller and Investment Services Supervisor roles in Mexico, engaging with regulators, and products such as mutual funds, separate accounts, and private funds in addition to equity, fixed income, multi-asset, cash, and alternatives investment strategies.

The individual also must be able to partner with the business and Legal & Compliance personnel on strategic initiatives and priorities within Latin America, across regions and functional areas, and globally.

Qualifications:

  • At least 12 years of asset management compliance, legal, and/or regulatory experience
  • Strong knowledge of the asset management regulatory requirements and expectations in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru
  • Knowledge of the sales, marketing, and distribution requirements in Panama, El Salvador, and Costa Rico in addition to securities lending in Brazil a plus
  • At least 7 years of experience in a Latin America compliance leadership role and managing a compliance team
  • Experience with sales and distribution compliance, regulatory filings, board presentations, and the handling of conflicts of interest and material nonpublic information (MNPI)
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills in Spanish, English and Portuguese
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, logically and analytically
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • University degree required, an advanced degree a plus
