Position Purpose

Senior Analyst, Marketing Analytics will be part of a team responsible for supporting Petco’s marketing strategies, including media planning, in depth business & marketing analytics and leveraging advanced marketing measurement tools and technologies for effective, thorough and timely assessment of marketing programs. They will utilize data driven insights to identify and recommend marketing / business opportunities that drive revenue, enhance customer lifetime value, optimize cost and maximize profit.

The Senior Analyst, Marketing Analytics will work effectively with the leaders of the Marketing Organization, Merchandise Planning & Inventory, Ecom, Customer Insights and Information Technology teams as they develop and implement initiatives that will each have a profound impact on the future direction and performance of Marketing and the company overall. Must be technically savvy with data tools and coding languages.

Essential Job Functions:

Deliver data-driven, actionable insights:

Work closely with partners from marketing strategy and media teams to inform and guide campaign strategies with data driven insights on customer, product and past marketing campaign performance.

Recommend spend levels, channel mix and own definition of KPIs and ongoing monitoring and optimization recommendations for key marketing initiatives. Inform marketing tactics with innovative approaches to multivariate testing and analysis.

Facilitate the annual business planning activities for key Marketing initiatives at Petco; assist with the development of long-range strategic plans and the annual budget; advise, consult, and coordinate activities with management, other departments, and external customers.

Identify and build relationships with key Petco ecommerce, media, digital and social agencies/vendors to maximize work quality, improve efficiency and reduce cost.

Build capabilities:

Build and augment analytical capabilities in: digital marketing, contact strategies, segmentation, lifetime value, retention, and acquisition leveraging lessons learned and best practices. Assist with implementation of measurement tools and maintain marketing tracking and data quality as inputs to measurement tools like multi touch attribution, media mix model, etc. Be technically savvy with hands on skills in SQL, Python, Looker, and other code dependent environments.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in marketing, economics, business administration or a related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience with performance marketing and media analytics (Digital Marketing, Performance Media—search, social, programmatic, Broadcast Media etc.), audience development, in-market planning, and analyzing results of marketing initiatives/programs.
  • Ability to analyze and track data from initial impression to bottom-line business impact, perform regression analysis as well as able to identify trends within the data.
  • Expert in querying SQL databases and performing causal impact analysis a must. Ability to develop reports in a BI platform (e.g., Google Data Studio/GA360, Tableau, Microstrategy, Power BI) is critical. Experience with Looker, Adobe, and GA stack preferred. Experience with statistical software e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, etc. is critical, as is data mining experience using R/Python.
  • Experience in Multi-touch attribution and Media Mix Modeling concepts, tools and interpretation of insights is required.
  • Experience setting up A/B/ multivariate experimental designs and driving marketing campaign optimization. Solid understanding of the concepts of test vs. control, incrementality, long-term value impact, etc.
  • Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills are required including the ability to make presentations to senior and executive management.
  • Related experience in a retail organization, a digital performance-media agency or an organization with large customer-base and product-mix data set is highly desirable.
