About this opportunity

Roblox is seeking a Senior Director of Business Development & Strategy to join our Global Music team. We’re seeking an individual who is passionate and has a vision for how the metaverse can bring innovation to all aspects of the music industry ecosystem, allowing all creators to take advantage of new creative and commercial opportunities on Roblox. This role will focus on identifying partners such as CPG brands, radio groups, DSPs, magazines, festivals, venues, labels and artists to build experiences on Roblox, coming up with creative concepts, negotiating the deals and then launching the partnerships. The candidate will also work with our record label, publisher and PRO partners to conceive and launch regular on-platform events and explore new licensing opportunities that will support future music products and services on Roblox. The ideal candidate will have exceptional knowledge of the digital music landscape, excellent partner management skills, and extensive relationships in the music industry. Additional responsibilities include negotiating, drafting, and closing deals for key business partners, assisting in P&L building, and developing comprehensive revenue models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and preserve strong business relationships with record labels, publishers, PRO’s, brands, startups, developer studios and production partners.
  • Come up with new creative products and services for artists to connect with their fans in new and innovative ways
  • Collaborate with the music industry to come up with new revenue opportunities for artists, songwriters, publishers and labels.
  • Drive financial analysis and strategic insights to support global and regional deal negotiations with key partners and internal product development roadmap planning.
  • Coordinate with finance and analytics teams to manage account performance, development, and revenue growth.
  • Act as a central resource for strategic insights, competitive intelligence, deal support, and expertise as required.
  • Ongoing deal and relationship management, including gaining insights into our partners and their plans to ensure their success and advocating to those partners about the opportunities that Roblox presents.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MBA.
  • 12+ years working in a business development / strategy role with a minimum of 6 years of direct experience within the music industry ecosystem.
  • Experience at a record label and a social media platform like Facebook, Tik Tok preferred
  • Highly strategic and capable of structuring and negotiating complex agreements, including experience interpreting legal documents and working with attorneys to complete agreements
  • Ability to think strategically, but also willing to dig in and roll up sleeves with a can do attitude.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationships inside and outside of Roblox.
  • Creative, resourceful, detail-oriented, and highly organized
  • Demonstrated presentation and communication skills
  • Experience managing, mentoring and growing a business development team.
  • High level of enthusiasm, creativity and innovative thinking with ability to quickly and easily adapt to change
  • Ideal candidate should have worked as an entertainment lawyer, investment banker or management consultant at a top firm in the TMT space.
