What we need

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Principal Scientist / Principal Scientist to join the integrated bioanalysis organisation. The position will take a lead role to develop bioanalysis and biomarker strategies and interpretation of data generated in support of new modality projects. Working in partnership with the project teams, you will lead the implementation of the strategic vision that will enable progression of the new modality drug pipeline. You will be instrumental in ensuring that we adopt innovative and world-class bioanalysis practices and as a scientific leader you will contribute to the personal development of team members.

The position is in our Discovery Bioanalysis Europe team, part of the Clinical Pharmacology and safety sciences function, is responsible for the analysis of nucleotide, protein, monoclonal antibody and gene and cell therapeutics and non-clinical safety biomarkers in biological and invitro samples generated in support of non GLP pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and investigational safety studies. We have a diverse array of scientists working across many technologies to ensure delivery of critical assays and data analysis that drive go/no go decisions and ensure the right combination of medicines get to the right patient, in the right dose, at the right time

What you’ll do

  • In partnership with the Discovery bioanalysis Europe team, this position will lead the implementation of the bioanalysis strategic vision
  • As the Discovery bioanalysis lead, collaborate with the Discovery project teams to facilitate appropriate incorporation of the bioanalysis and biomarker strategies
  • Using a range of innovative analytical methodologies, this position will work to develop novel methods for the pharmacokinetic measurement of therapeutic gene editing, protein, and nucleotide therapeutics.
  • You will be expected to represent the department on multidiscipline drug discovery teams spanning a number of different therapeutic modalities, thus ability to utilise a range of technologies in the lab will be essential such as PCR, ligand binding, branched-DNA and hybridisation ELISA.
  • You will report into a head of Discovery Bioanalysis EU and be expected to take a lead role in pushing the boundaries of what is possible for new modality therapeutics bioanalyses.

Essential for the role

  • A strong background in a biological or chemical related discipline with significant experience in designing bioanalysis strategies for new modality projects such as gene and cell therapies, proteins, and nucleotide therapeutics
  • Extensive experience of developing methods for the quantitative measurement of new modality therapeutics and biomarkers
  • A highly independent thinker with an ability to develop hypotheses and execute analysis plans for pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and biomarker data
  • Excellent skills in communication, science leadership, stakeholder influencing and programme management
  • Ability to act as a bioanalysis ambassador and to influence internal and external organisations to enhance the image and reputation of AstraZeneca
  • A proven track record of publication in gene editing, nucleotide and / or large molecule bioanalysis field.

Desirable for the role

  • Pharmacokinetic / toxicokinetic non compartmental analysis skills.
  • Operational experience with HPLC-MS/MS for measurement of proteins and nucleotides.
