In this role, you will help build, lead, and manage a new team of cloud and data engineers responsible for architecting and operating a data and machine learning platform for Viasat’s Operations department. The team will own core components of a high-availability data ingestion and integration processing pipeline that intakes data from globally distributed sources. You will design and implement new features and enhancements to the data platform to advance component architecture towards strategic data governance/management objectives while providing ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products. You will work with data scientists and machine learning engineers to build and enhance a next generation machine learning platform to enable AI-powered applications impacting internal and external customers. You will work with full stack software engineering teams to design, develop, and deploy high availability systems relied upon by internal and external customers. Additionally, you will monitor and recommend emerging technologies/technology practices for potential use within the Company.

Requirements
  • 8+ years proven software development experience
  • 3+ Data Warehouse Experience with Oracle, Redshift, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, etc. and demonstrated strength in SQL, data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing
  • Experience in maintaining data warehouse systems and working on large scale data transformation using Hadoop, Spark, Hive, or other Big Data technologies
  • Familiarity with at least one cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Demonstrated experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, web applications and systems as a full stack developer using two or more of the following: Java, Python, NodeJS, C, C++, or C#
  • Exposure to continuous integration implementations that utilize DevOps style tools (such as Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, GitLab, etc.)
  • Proven team player with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced dynamic agile work environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
Preferences
  • 3+ years in a leadership position
  • Understanding of distributed and parallel computing architectures
  • Working experience in data ingestions including streaming, batch processing, and real-time data processing frameworks and storage (Kafka, Hadoop, Spark Streaming, Mesos or Kinesis)
  • Experience with container orchestration services (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS KMS, etc.)
  • Experience working with data across sensitivity levels (ITAR, PII, PCI, etc.)
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud
  • Strong networking knowledge (TCP, UDP, Multicast, IPv6)
