Job Description

The ideal candidate is a rare hybrid, a scientist with the programming abilities to scrape, combine, and manage data from a variety of sources and a statistician who knows how to derive insights from the information within. He or she will combine the skills to create new prototypes with the creativity and thoroughness to ask and answer the deepest questions about the data, what secrets it holds, and to push the boundaries of what is possible with big data. Qualified candidates will have a strong academic background in mathematics or statistics, passion for data science, data mining, machine learning and experience with big data architecture and methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Big Data Engineer is an integral part of the Privacy Engineering team that works closely in all phases of the prototype development.
  • Work with key stakeholders and understand their needs to develop new or improve existing global data governance and oversight solutions around data and analytics.
  • Work in a cross-functional, matrix organization, at times under ambiguous circumstances.
  • Collaborate with Technology, Security, Data Privacy, Data Governance, and IT Operation teams to support the movement, scanning and analyzing of data assets migrated to GCP
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the design and development of scalable solutions using large datasets within a cloud platform and cross train new Big Data and/or data analyst on the team
  • Research innovative data solutions to solve real data privacy and protection problems.
  • Conceptualize, analyze and develop actionable recommendations for strategic challenges facing the Privacy Engineering organization.
  • Manage data analysis to develop fact-based recommendations for innovation projects.
  • Mine Big Data, structured, semi-structured and unstructured data to tap untouched data sources and deliver insight into new and data privacy solutions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop ideas and execute business plans.
  • Remain current on new developments in data analytics, Big Data, predictive analytics, and technology.
  • Understand the various aspects of architecture practices: business, application, data, security, infrastructure and governance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or other engineering fields with 3-5 years’ experience as a Data Analyst, Data Scientist or Data Wrangler.
  • Master’s degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Data Science, Analytics or Statistics or other engineering fields with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • 3+ year’s experience in virtualized or public cloud platforms, ideally Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure.
  • Expertise in relational, NoSQL (or related technologies) and at least one general purpose programming such as Python, Scala, is required.
  • Experience in performing analysis using Google BigQuery, and other Google Cloud Platform technologies, Hive, R, Impala, Scala+ Spark or PySpark is a big plus.
  • Agile development including Scrum and other lean techniques is a plus.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to design algorithms, which may include data cleaning, data mining, data clustering and pattern recognition methodologies.
