Job Description

The Gogo Business Aviation Senior Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer role focuses on supporting the successful integration of design engineering outputs into manufacturing. This role owns New Product Introduction (NPI) deliverables for Operations Engineering during new development projects, support activities during pilot & production lifecycle phases through end-of-life. You will be a key contributor to our overall customer satisfaction and to the company profitability.

How will you make a difference?

  • Responsible for mechanical and assembly related deliverables for new product development projects; this includes DFx input during design reviews, as well as prototype and production tooling (assembly and test fixturing) required for prototype builds
  • Create production Bill-of-Materials and routers in ERP system for both initial prototype and production builds and maintain them throughout lifecycle of the product as new revisions are released
  • Create and maintain manufacturing Work Instructions for use by Gogo production personnel, as well as external Contract Manufacturing vendors
  • Bring-up of products at Contract Manufacturer after initial product release
  • Collaborate with the Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Supplier Quality/Failure
  • Analysis Engineering and NPI teams on product yield roadmaps during the product development cycle. This will include:
  • Ownership for tracking of production line First Pass Yield performance, including root cause corrective action to address identified issues.
  • Identifying milestones and metrics to drive first pass yield improvement
  • Identifying and implementing manufacturing product cost reductions
  • Partner with the manufacturing test engineers to define and execute plans for test process/ software code validation, including measurement systems analysis (MSA)
  • Training and transitioning product assembly knowledge and tooling sets, as applicable, to the FAA Certified Repair Station
  • Provide sustaining engineering support for current and legacy products to ensure on time delivery requirements are met
  • Define and coordinate changes in product design to ensure that field-released products will maintain or improve product quality and reliability performance
  • Co-responsible, with Supplier Quality Engineer and Operations Purchasing/Logistics personnel, for timely MRB material management and problem report closure
  • Provide support to Supplier Quality Engineers and provide recommendations for mechanical and assembly related issues as they arise
  • Participates in ISO 9001/AS9100 audits and internal audits

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent work

experience

  • 7+ years’ work experience in an engineering role in manufacturing of electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical products
  • Ability to travel up to ~10% (domestic and international)

Required Skills, Experience and Talents

  • Strong leadership, effective communication, accountability, and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical design and manufacturing processes for electromechanical assemblies, including handling and assembly of electrostatic sensitive devices (ESD)
  • Knowledge of machined, molded and stamped component fabrication processes
  • Proven experience with assembly tooling design, sourcing and qualification, with an emphasis on project planning and reporting
  • Strong failure analysis troubleshooting and data analytic skills on a mechanical and assembly related failures to determine root cause of failure
  • Can generate failure reports and provide recommended corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence of problems
  • Experience in implementing and managing ERP processes as they relate to production
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) and Router usage for execution of Production Orders and MRB rework activities
  • Ability to quickly learn and develop new processes
  • Proven effective and advanced written and verbal communication skills to inform, explain, and educate internal and external contacts on complex ideas related to quality issues
  • Team friendly, and approachable. A sense of humor!

Preferred Skills, Experience and Talents

  • SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software
  • Navision, SAP, Oracle or equivalent ERP software and related process knowledge
  • Six Sigma/Lean Sigma DMAIC knowledge
  • Practical experience in an ISO 9001/AS9100 based Quality Management System
  • Familiarity with Agile PLM for data documentation in Problem Reports, Corrective Action

Request, Engineering Change Requests preferred

  • Experience offloading and supporting external Contract Manufacturers

Compensation: $92,000 - $115,000

Target Annual Incentive: 10% of base compensation
