Job Description

The Gogo Business Aviation Network Engineer will be responsible for the sustaining engineering and operational maintenance of Gogo’s BSC RAN systems and will support 5G cell site configuration. With an emphasis on ensuring resiliency, you will be well positioned to influence and improve preventative practices. You will join a team of engineers with diverse technical aptitudes managing various systems and providing highly available network services.

How will you make a difference?

  • Evaluate the hardware and software configuration of our ZTE BSC and provide recommendations to bolster its resiliency
  • Review existing capabilities and sustaining procedures, highlight risks, propose solutions, facilitate improvements
  • Exercise fault scenarios to ensure system redundancy and ensure ability to recover
  • Document configuration, update diagrams, procedures (MOPs), and facilitate operationalization for Tier 1/ Tier 2
  • Interface with vendors, outside support services, and technical consultants
  • Support internal development initiatives by providing BSC RAN support as needed
  • Manage, configure, administer, and provide ongoing support for ZTE management servers (OMC and EMS)
  • Conduct regular hardware inventory audits and ensure asset tracking is accurate and up to date
  • Manage hardware sparing, conduct tests, replenish inventories
  • Coordinate sustaining activities with data center personnel
  • Support Field Operations and interface with internal and external escalations as needed
  • Develop/enhance/track/report on key performance indicators
  • Provide Tier 3 support in response to escalations or outages
  • Contribute to quarterly quality reporting and conduct reviews
  • Support 5G RAN configuration and participate in end to end testing activities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of telecommunications experience working with CDMA 2000 EVDO network elements
  • Ability to travel ~25%
  • Ability to conduct system work during maintenance windows

Required Skills, Experiences and Talents:

  • Familiar with mobile telecom theory, soft-switching principles, and 3GPP2 related specifications
  • Familiar with cellular network elements (BSC, AAA, PDSN) and common performance parameters
  • Familiar with CDMA maintenance practices, backup procedures, and knowledge of activities that are likely to disrupt service
  • Experience working with Linux OS and knowledge of common internet protocols

Preferred Skills, Experience & Talents:

  • Experience working in data centers, server rooms, and/or central offices
  • Ability to interface effectively at all levels inside and outside of the organization
  • Experience handling routine maintenance activities and coordinating preventative exercises such as: active/standby board changeovers and core network failovers
  • Experience installing and commissioning core sites / data centers and conducting acceptance test procedures (ATP)
  • Experience with ZTE BSC, AAA, and PDSN, architecture, related performance parameters
  • Experience with ZTE NMS management of these functions: security, licensing, system maintenance, configuration, fault, performance, version, signaling trace
  • Solid knowledge of the OSI 7 layer model, network routing, switching, load balancing, and related protocols
  • 5G knowledge and call processing technologies a plus

Compensation: $86,000 - $105,000

Target Annual Incentive: 10% of base compensation
