The Defense Group of Leidos has an opportunity for a Deputy Program Manager position at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, the candidate will support management of technical and programmatic aspects of energetic materials and munitions R&D contracts. Ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in chemistry or chemical engineering, have a demonstrated understanding of R&D aimed at new materials and technologies, and have people and project management experience. Candidate will be responsible for guiding, planning, organizing, securing and managing resources to bring about successful completion of specific program goals and objectives. Duties include ensuring that all programs run within scope, time, and budget constraints. Candidate will serve as a technical lead and interface with task and functional leaders, subcontractors, and support personnel. Will be responsible for leading/contributing to business development and proposal activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction and manage personnel executing multiple programs
  • Manage subcontractors
  • Set up processes in line with program management best practices to ensure flawless contract execution
  • Identify and pursue new contracts and growth opportunities Prepare and submit milestone deliverables and contractually required reporting in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Develop relationships with customers and serve as a focal point for technical communications.
  • Prepare budgets and resource allocations for programs and track costs vs plan to ensure program execution at budget.

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a minimum of BA/BS (chemistry/chemical engineering) and 5+ years’ experience managing R&D programs. Advanced degree highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with one or more of the following areas – Computation, Synthesis, Scale up, Process Engineering and Development of novel materials .
  • Knowledge and experience with DoD contract execution and management.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • US citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • R&D experience in the development and characterization of new materials for specific applications.
