Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) at USAA is to improve and sustain the reliability of USAA’s most critical IT systems. The role is essential in helping establish and measure service level objectives for critical systems. In addition, SREs will continuously identify engineering and automation opportunities to effectively manage production systems at scale. An SRE will model a blameless culture through effective postmortems and a focus on minimizing impact felt from outages. An SRE should also have experience influencing new ideas to peers and leadership and should have strong teaming and collaboration skills to help support the goals of growing the SRE practice at USAA. * This role will sit out of San Antonio Home Office or Plano, TX or 100% Remote *

  • Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field of study, OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required.

Minimum Experience:

  • 6 years of software development experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding within a specific discipline(s)/technology(s).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently research technical issues and generate creative/innovative solutions.

Preferred Experience:

  • 4 years of experience in one or more of the following: C, C++, Java or Python
  • 2 years of experience or working knowledge of end-to-end IT systems (compute, storage, network, security, application runtime, relational databases, REST services, asynchronous messaging, etc.)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience developing enterprise applications in a large-scale production environment that utilizes legacy and modern technologies, including but not limited to WebSphere and OpenShift OR Experience with implementing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices in an enterprise environment including utilization of tools like Prometheus and Grafana

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $106,800 - $192,300 *(this does not include geographical differential, it may be applied based on your work location)

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

*Geographical Differential: Geographic pay differential is additional pay provided to eligible employees working in locations where market pay levels are above the national average.

Shift premium will be addressed on an individual basis for applicable roles that are consistently scheduled for non-core hours.
