We are seeking a seasoned government affairs professional reporting to our General Counsel with experience working for or closely with a state insurance regulatory agency to lead its government affairs function.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute Oscar’s government relations strategy and Government Affairs function
  • Lead and manage Oscar’s growing Government Affairs team
  • With GA team, serve as “face of the company” to federal and state regulators and insurance exchanges in Oscar’s markets though regular in-person visits (post-Covid) and communications as necessary
  • With GA team, run point on matters of significant regulatory importance to the business, including significant business operational plans and emerging problems.
  • Communicate regulator priorities, interests, political dynamics, and other ground-level intelligence that could affect Oscar’s business
  • Run point on all executive-level regulatory contacts, including annual business reviews and meetings with state insurance Directors and Commissioners
  • Partner closely with Oscar’s Legal, Compliance, and Communications teams to make initial regulator introductions in new states, seek regulator guidance, report anticipated problems and business changes, and escalate issues within regulatory bodies
  • Work with Communications team to ensure press, social media, and other external messaging is consistent with regulator communications
  • Develop legislative and regulatory advocacy strategy for Oscar’s public policy priorities at the state and federal levels, including through liaison with state/federal health plan associations, and get results!

About you:

  • B.A. in a relevant field
  • 15+ years’ experience in a regulator-facing insurance industry role and/or working for an insurance regulator
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, dependable team player, who thrives in high growth and fast-paced environments
  • Ability to manage competing demands, shifting priorities, and the interests of multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and collaborative, with a deep sense of personal accountability, ownership, and pride in your work
  • Desire to work in a dynamic and exciting space in lower Manhattan, with all the expected perks of a tech startup
  • Public company experience a plus
