We are looking for someone who has the ambition and drive to get every Canadian merchant on Shopify and shape Shopify into Canada’s largest, most trusted, most inspirational brand. As Director of Marketing for Canada, you will be responsible for all of Shopify’s marketing outcomes in our home market, from growing lead volumes across multiple audience segments through Canadian activations, to engaging our existing merchants and partners, to creating programs and telling stories that inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs in Canada. You will report to Shopify’s Managing Director for Canada and work closely with our Director of Global Marketing and your counterparts in other regions around the world. You will work as a part of the Canadian senior leadership team and our global Revenue leadership team to shape our go-to-market strategy in Canada. In this role, you will lead a high-caliber team of marketers focused on merchant growth, bringing products to market, raising awareness, and establishing a local presence across Canada. You will set and hold high standards for your team, while also deeply investing in their development and success. Consistent with Shopify’s culture, this leadership role is a player-coach role where you are comfortable with rolling up your sleeves alongside with your team. Beyond leading your team, you will be skilled in collaborating and building alignment across many global teams to bring the full focus of Shopify’s organization onto Canada for high-impact moments. Responsibilities:

    • Be Shopify’s marketing leader for the Canadian market, responsible for Shopify’s marketing activities and outcomes in Canada
    • Hire, manage and lead a multi-disciplinary, results-driven team of marketers (initial team of 5 - 10, growing over time)
    • Create a culture of high-performance, creativity and continual learning on your team
    • Develop a bi-directional feedback loop to foster strong collaboration with sales and marketing teams, driving a culture of fast growth and constant improvement
    • Work closely with merchant success team to tell merchant stories and help make Canadian merchants grow into successful businesses
    • Partner with Shopify global marketing teams on areas of shared accountability and to roll out global programs, campaigns and ad spend in Canada
    • Drive incremental top-of-funnel results for Shopify’s various audience segments through made-in-Canada content, campaigns, partnerships and events; with a focus on local-level marketing programs across online and offline channels
    • Engage with Shopify’s Canadian merchants and partners to tell their stories and inspire others to become entrepreneurs
    • Create innovative go-to-market partnerships with Canada’s top companies and organizations to drive large-scale merchant acquisition
    • Lead annual marketing investment planning for Canada
    • Direct and support market intelligence and research work in Canada
    • Maintain brand standards and ensure compliance across all marketing and communications channels
    • Develop strong relationships and feedback loops with product, sales, merchant success, support, and partnerships

Requirements:

    • Full-stack marketing experience. You have led teams that span multiple marketing functions, including: B2B growth, content, campaigns, lifecycle, events, market research, customer marketing, PR, partnerships
    • Excellent leadership skills. You build great teams, inspire your people, and have a long list of high performers who want to be on your team.
    • Audacity. You have the confidence, risk appetite and execution ability to build Shopify into Canada’s top brand.
    • Collaborative leadership style. You are experienced at lining up support and resources for big projects from many teams beyond your own.
    • Growth experience. You are growth focused and have deep knowledge and hands-on experience building marketing funnels and lifecycle journeys to drive revenue. You are comfortable diving deep into the data to understand opportunities to improve conversion and increase growth.
    • Credibility in team rooms & board rooms. Leading at Shopify requires the range to be deep in the weeds with your team, while also seeing and communicating the big picture to our exec team and stakeholders.
    • Comfort owning & delivering on a number. You are used to being accountable for a target and know how to consistently deliver.

Added Bonus:

    • Marketing leadership experience in high-growth SaaS or tech sales business
    • Deep familiarity with the Canadian commerce and retail landscape
    • Marketing experience in large global organizations and smaller startups
