Job Responsibilities

You are an experienced technology manager with a track record of building and nurturing high performing engineering teams, establishing agile and lean practices and creating a data driven culture. You understand demand management and requirements definition to the extent that you ensure work is presented to the team as a consolidated, prioritised backlog of work which has been sufficiently well defined.

Having been a software engineer you understand the challenges associated with delivering high quality, high value software and/or services. You have a broad interest in and understanding of the current relevant trends across areas such as UX, UI, Web Services, Cloud Computing, Continuous Delivery etc. You are passionate about continuous improvement, unrelenting in identifying and addressing things which slow teams down or reduce their ability to deliver high quality software.

● Establish and improve effective organizational practices and culture, building on what works for top technology companies

● Ensure that the engineering organization is effective and transparent and that our work is always market ready with a continuous delivery focus

● Drive change and capability building initiatives across engineering

● Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, excellence and a fun working environment

● Build highly engaged product teams to develop products that support the aviation industry

● Hire world-class software engineering talent

● Promote an environment of data driven decision making

● Build alignment and foster better collaboration across Viasat sites and business units

● Be a contributor to software architecture, software quality, technical practices and help staff to drive successful delivery of our products

● Assume line management responsibility for one or more teams across our Dublin-based engineering staff

● Perform annual review and goal setting activities within an existing framework

Requirements

● A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field or equivalent practical hands on experience

● 3-5 years professional experience in a software management position.

● Experience contributing to technology and product strategy.

● Proven experience with hiring, team building and personnel management including staff, contractors and vendors.

● Experience leading capability building initiatives across diverse areas such as infrastructure and operations automation, software quality, delivery automation and other core engineering.

● Demonstrated experience of driving operational efficiency and transparency of a growing engineering organization.
