The Role: Xylem seeks to hire a Territory Sales Manager who will be a subject matter expert, responsible for driving growth for all Mixer products for the North America region. The position will work closely with the Regional Managers, 3rdparty representatives; Application Engineers and Growth Center to effectively communicate the function specific value proposition to our customers, and promote regional specific products and applications to grow our opportunity funnel. The Territory Sales Manager will be responsible and accountable for meeting and exceeding an annual orders and sales budget for the specific function.
The position will be part of a team that strives to achieve overall company goals in terms of revenue and profitability, image, reputation, and customer service. The Territory Sales Manager will require strong leadership, communication and influence skills to effectively manage key customer accounts, and also collaborate with peers and upper management across the Xylem organization.
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
- Work with Regional Managers, Marketing, Direct Sales Representatives and 3rdparty channel partners to generate sales of Flygt Mixers and PP Pumps; conduct regional seminars based on market drivers (e.g., regulatory, application, or retrofit) to educate customer base and grow opportunity funnel
- Working in conjunction with the respective product manager, act as sales company liaison to growth center to communicate North American market needs, competitive benchmarking, regulatory drivers/trends, and provide input to product development pipeline
- Manage function specific funnel to understand performance by region/channel, product/application, and product margin realization
- Manage key projects based on customer relationship, size ($), strategic importance
- Act as the Key Account Manager for function specific industry experts (consulting engineers)
- Work with Regional Managers to provide training, update on products/applications, success stories to new channel partners and key customers
- Work with Regional Managers, Marketing, and 3rdparty channel to influence marketplace through whitepapers/case stories & presentations at regional/national conferences
- Work with channel and customers (consultants, utilities, state regulators) to identify regulatory drivers/changes and impact on Xylem’s product portfolio (differentiators and gaps) and substitute technologies; effectively communicate market trends to Xylem leadership
- Keep Applications Engineering Manager and Applications Engineers to up to date on training collateral, product/application sizing/costing tools, presentation collateral, etc.
- Personally and through other company resources, develop general depth in Xylem product and application knowledge to identify cross-branded opportunities
- Drive a culture that is highly responsive to both internal and external customers and which provides accurate, comprehensive and timely information
- Prioritize, focus, and complete most critical initiatives
- Strong capability to lead/coordinate with team members in various geographic locations over whom there is not a direct reporting relationship; must have excellent influence skills
- Self-motivated, self-starter with intrinsic drive to work independently, with balanced guidance from sales director and leadership team
- Ability to network effectively within organization to get things done
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or Sciences, with an MBA preferred; at least five years of experience working in the water and wastewater treatment market; specifically working with representatives, consultants, contractors and end-users technically and commercially
- Demonstrated successful sales experience with sales budget/region responsibility and customer account management
- Deep knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment process and applications; specifically in a given function (e.g., biological treatment, disinfection, filtration)
- Experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
- Passionate about customer intimacy & customer service
- Proficient in Microsoft Office & CRM
- Excellent interpersonal, influence & communication skills (written & oral)
- Excellent task management & organization skills
- Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
