The Enterprise API Management program is responsible for delivery of four technology products: Service Marketplace, API Gateway, API Lifecycle Manager, and API Developer Frameworks and Libraries. Each product requires one or more product analysts to create, document, evangelize, and groom user stories, as well as communicate product direction with Scrum team members. The product analyst must strive to accurately understand customer needs, then be able to translate and prioritize those for the engineering team.

The Release Train Engineer's (RTE) major responsibilities are to facilitate the API Program events and processes, and assist the teams in delivering value. RTEs communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risk, and drive relentless improvement. They also participate in the Lean-Agile transformation, coaching leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in the new processes and mindsets. They help configure SAFe to the organization’s needs, standardizing and documenting practices.

Specifically the RTE will:

  • Manage and optimize the flow of value through the API Group using various tools
  • Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Quarterly Program Increments (PIs)
  • Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
  • Facilitate the Quarterly PI planning event
  • Work with the Agile team POs and SMs to summarize Team PI Objectives into API Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency
  • Assist in tracking and the execution of the Quarterly Business Objectives
  • Facilitate periodic synchronization meetings, including the Scrum of Scrums and PO Sync meetings.
  • Assist with economic decision-making by facilitating Quarterly Business Objective estimation by teams
  • Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets, act as a scrum master as needed
  • Help manage risks and dependencies
  • Escalate and track impediments
  • Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks
  • Encourage collaboration between teams (Architecture, Risk, etc.)
  • Work with API Product Managers, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment
  • Improve the flow of value through value streams by improving and assessing the practices associated with DevOps and Release on Demand in the Continuous Delivery Pipeline
  • Help drive the Lean User Experience (UX) innovation cycle
  • Work with the Program Management Office (PMO) on program execution and operational excellence
  • Facilitate API System Demos (overall demo from all teams)
  • Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops; assess the agility level of the API Agile Release Train (ART), and help them improve
  • Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices

Required Qualifications

  • 10 + years of experience with Agile tools
  • 5+ years of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) experience
  • One or more of these certifications: Certified SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), Certified SAFe Agilist (SA), PMI-Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), Certified Scrum Professional Product Owner (CSP-PO), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP-SM) Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP) certification, Kanban Management Professional (KMP) certification, Kanban Coaching Professional (KCP) certification
  • 6+ years of experience as a practicing Scrum Master


Desired Qualifications

  • 10+ years of business systems analysis or design experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of API programming with Perl, XML, REST or JSON
  • Experience with one or a combination of the following: Java, Python, API Calls, Reverse Proxy, or Process Automation
