Role Value Proposition:

The US Region Risk Management organization is aligned with and embedded in our businesses to help appropriately manage risks arising from our products, services and business operations. The US Operational Risk Management team is responsible for supporting and overseeing all US Lines of Business and MetLife Holdings (MLH) operations. This team, along with business management, ensures that effective risk management is embedded in day to day operations and reflected in our business strategies, and related activities. The team also represents the businesses in enterprise risk discussions to ensure their voice is reflected in decision making.

The US Operational Risk Management Director will support the Head of US Operational Risk in further developing MetLife’s operational risk management framework and in working with our US Lines of Business (US LOBs) and MLH to implement such risk management framework. This associate will play a critical role in promoting, supporting and advising the US Lines of Businesses and MetLife Holdings in identifying, monitoring and managing key operational risks to enable achievement of business strategy and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation of MetLife’s enterprise operational risk management framework and key practices within the company’s US Lines of Business, MLH and support functions.
  • Oversee adherence to MetLife standards and industry best practices applicable to risk identification and assessment frameworks.
  • Assist in the design, collection, tracking and reporting of key operational risk metrics for senior leadership and the US Operational Risk Committee.
  • Coordinate, manage and facilitate Non-Financial Risk Assessments (NFRAs).
  • Manage risk and control inventories supporting the NFRA process, including top risk reporting and tracking.
  • Facilitate emerging operational risk identification and assessment activities, and related strategic initiatives.
  • Support operational risk loss event capture, analysis, monitoring and reporting.
  • Oversee and track remediation of key operational risk issues to ensure control gaps are appropriately addressed.
  • Oversee strategic initiatives to ensure risks associated with such initiatives are properly identified, understood and managed.
  • Work closely with business partners, other risk assurance functions (e.g. Compliance, Internal Audit, etc.), and Global Operational Risk leaders to ensure understanding and effective implementation of the framework; gain a comprehensive understanding of the operational risk profile of the businesses; and compare and align implementation of the risk management framework across the enterprise.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Ability to coordinate across lines of business and corporate functions to influence risk mitigation actions
  • Strong analytical skills and business judgment.
  • A track record of setting and achieving aggressive goals and continuously driving improved performance.
  • Experience as a change management leader, operating effectively in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Proven ability to inspire commitment and high performance from teams to achieve business objectives through clear communication of the company’s vision and flexing leadership styles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong competency in Excel, Powerpoint, and other quantitative and story-telling platforms used for executive presentations.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of business experience working in a highly matrixed business environment.

Preferred:

  • A professional designation or degree in the area of business, law, compliance, risk management, or financial services.
