The Opportunity

Datto RMM is a Cloud IT management platform used by over 10000 global customers to audit, manage, monitor, support and report on distributed devices. Our service is used to provide support to a range of devices from servers to smartphones, kiosks to printers, and customers range from small IT shops to some of the world’s largest corporations.

DRMM is hosted in Amazon Web Services, with platforms in the EU, America, and Australia, and a backend based largely on a foundation of Java. We make use of many proven open source technologies, including Chef, Tomcat, nginx, HAProxy, Redis, ElasticSearch and Graphite, and leverage many of the managed services currently provided by Amazon. You'll be our first, on the ground DevOps Engineer for RMM based in the Southern Hemisphere!

A Look Inside the Job

• Help us continue to scale our SaaS solution to millions upon millions of devices
• Maintain our production platforms, assisting in the roll out of new features and fixes, and helping support a flexible and agile development process, from first commit through to customer use
• Work alongside teams in Europe and the US, and provide coverage for our growing customer base in APAC, assisting the support team with investigations into customer issues and responding to platform alerts

About you

• We’re looking for someone who is smart and gets things done
• As our first stand-alone DevOps Eng in AU, you're an autonomous self-starter
• You have initiative and are able to quickly understand and solve problems
• Comfortable in a Linux environment, and whilst previous AWS experience would be ideal, if you’ve only worked with Azure, Digital Ocean, your own hardware, or a mix of all the above, don’t let that put you off!
• You're happy to work a flexible rotating roster - we help each other out covering weekend on calls where necessary. During the week your hours will lean heavier toward afternoons and early evenings

Technical Skills

We don't expect you to have experience using all the technology we currently deploy, but being eager to get stuck in with new tech is essential!

• Scripting Ability – We’re not looking for a Developer, but you’ll need to know your way around code
• nginx, HAProxy, Tomcat, MySQL, Redis, ElasticSearch, memcached, git, ZooKeeper – a broad knowledge of web technologies will be advantageous
• SQL – A lot of our data is spread out amongst a plethora of MySQL Tables. You need to be able to get at it!
• Profiling, Performance Tuning, and Fault Finding. Things rarely go wrong in the same way twice, so you’ll need to be confident reading metrics, taking thread dumps, and digging into logs to help find problems
• Co-ordination and management wise we use the Atlassian Stack, including JIRA for issue tracking, Confluence for general documentation, BitBucket (Git) for source control and code reviews (Yes, we’ll expect you to review and be reviewed!), and Bamboo for CI. You don't need to have used them before though, as they're pretty easy to get started with.
