About the role

We’re looking for an Assistant Controller to oversee the Revenue, Accounting Operations, and Corporate functions, including the monthly close process end-to-end. Reporting to the Controller, you’ll get the chance to be hands-on with hiring and developing team members, managing day-to-day accounting activities, and establishing new processes as well as improving existing processes to drive efficiency. Areas of oversight include accounts payable, payroll, intercompany and consolidations. You will interact and coordinate with colleagues in Finance & Strategy, Tax and various other departments across the Company to ensure proper accounting treatment and accurate financial results. The Assistant Controller will play a key leadership role in the Finance organization around process improvement, system implementations and optimizations, standardizing processes and mentoring the team.

Your day-to-day will involve:

• Provide leadership, support and professional development opportunities to a growing team of skilled and ambitious Robindhoodies
• Lead the monthly close process, including coordinating with teams that have dependencies on the close calendar
• Partner with cross-functional teams to identify how strategic business and product changes impact accounting
• Work with the Finance Engineering team to automate the accounting close process wherever possible
• Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with established best practices
• Liaise with Technical Accounting to drive reporting and policy-based projects and documentation
• Develop a culture of mentorship, continuous improvement, training and success in the accounting organization
• Support external audit requirements related to specific areas of responsibility

Some things we consider critical for this role:

• 12+ years of total experience with escalating levels of responsibility, including people management
• Strong knowledge and understanding of IT general controls, application controls and how they relate to business processes
• Experience in helping drive toward IPO readiness
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, excellent soft-skills, and ability to motivate and influence all levels of management
• Strong understanding of technical accounting issues, especially with regard to revenue recognition
• Demonstrated strong leadership skills, high energy, initiative and creativity - with a proven ability to manage significant initiatives across the organization, as well as develop and motivate staff
• Ability to assess and implement technology to automate and control numerous accounting processes
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
