About the role

The Lead Front-end Developer will focus on cross-organizational initiatives to evolve our user experiences across Boston Scientific, as well as being a key player in developing experience guidelines and standards for customer-facing platforms, such as Adobe Experience Manager and SalesForce Community. As a development lead, you will have the opportunity to define, maintain and evangelize code standards, best practices and forward-thinking solutions. This role will report directly to the Senior Manager of the Design Team/Head of Experience Design, within Global Digital Marketing at Boston Scientific.

You have experience working with a wide range of teammates and partners; product teams, in-house teams, agencies, freelancers, consultants. You have hands-on experience working in, or in close collaboration with technical teams, as well as the ability to communicate with technical resources.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as a Lead Front-end Developer, Writing and reviewing code with an eye for quality, efficiency, and stability.
  • Develop responsive, mobile-first, accessible global templates and components for our customer-facing platforms
  • Articulate a technical vision for a more enlightened way of working and work with multi-functional partners to deliver that vision
  • Work with the team to facilitate requirement building, code reviews and QA testing
  • Work closely with the Design team and product owners, being an integral part of the design solution and transforming designs into compelling user-facing products
  • Build easy-to-use, mobile-first UIs with an atomic design principle approach, contributing to and maintaining the global design system
  • Own the development of front-end code standards and comprehensive documentation
  • Maintain and foster a high level of communication and collaboration, aptitude for building consensus and compromise with your approach, and enthusiasm for introducing new concepts and processes
  • Maintaining a high awareness of industry trends, particularly with regard to accessibility, usability, and emerging front-end technologies

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years of professional experience developing web experiences
  • BS / MS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with others across the organization
  • In-depth understanding of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, as well as related tools (dependency management, CSS preprocessors, etc.). Knowledge of front-end frameworks like React or Angular a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of content management systems and experience developing global custom templates/components a must. Experience with AEM a plus.
  • Have a solid understanding of accessibility guidelines with experience writing semantic HTML, with focus on screen readers and keyboard
  • Ability to learn and master new technologies and tools; technologies used at Boston Scientific include: Solid understanding of JavaScript (ES6+, not jQuery), Gulp, Sass, Bootstrap Framework, as well as Git and Bitbucket repositories
  • Demonstrate experience working in agile/scrum/lean methodologies with many different teams, including, Product, Marketing, Analytics, Development and IT
  • Able to communicate technical concepts, orally and in written documentation, effectively to members of cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of best-practices in supporting multiple browsers and platforms, along with best-practices in Search Engine Optimization
  • Working knowledge of InVision for specifications, and JIRA for project management needed. Experience with Sketch or Photoshop a plus.
  • Code samples that demonstrate adherence to best practices in semantic structure, as well as an understanding of development with atomic design principles in mind
