We are seeking to recruit consultant Senior Programme Managers. These roles are focused upon providing capability to our clients, leading and delivering major complex programmes on their behalf. Our clients are confronted with some of the most technically and commercially challenging investments. These multi-million pound programmes include major investment and delivery of infrastructure and/or equipment; they may also entail major transformational changes incorporating the introduction of new digital and cyber technologies. Our clients are challenged with complex stakeholder communities, supply chains and approvals processes. Atkins programme/ project delivery staff are focussed on helping our client secure and enhance the defence of the public and the nation’s wider interests.
About the role
These roles are within the P3M-Delivery Practice and applicants will need to demonstrate significant experience of leading major Technical Programmes, particularly within the Security and Defence sectors. The individual will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and engagement skills, specifically with the most senior of the client’s decision makers and other executive level activities. The individual will be a Registered Project Professional or Chartered Project Professional able to contribute to and lead thought leadership. This role also carries responsibility for influencing the future direction of Programme and Project Delivery capability development within our Business. This is a senior role that will include revenue targets and the expectation to work closely with our Market Directors and Business Development Director.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to our Business for the successful delivery of complex technical programmes on behalf of our clients.
  • Lead Atkins teams in execution of major assignments on behalf of our client. The provision of oversight and leadership to multi-disciplinary teams of circa 100 within the client account, with ability to anticipate and co-ordinate responses to client business needs.
  • Responsibility for the overall management and delivery of technical quality (outputs), commercial performance, and ongoing client satisfaction.
  • Contributing to business development, including leading specific engagement/framework in collaboration with the market/client director. This will focus upon engaging with key senior client personnel to identify needs and to develop value propositions that will enhance current delivery performance for the client and our Business.
  • Establishing delivery plans with clients negotiating and agreeing the engagement to the contractual arrangements. To be responsible for delivering financial outcomes that are in excess of the agreed financial objectives
  • Fostering teamwork and commitment to the Atkins behavioural standards
  • Supporting the drive to deliver innovation, technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and process standardisation /optimisation across our Business and clients
  • Develop and maintain resource demand to support client opportunities, in collaboration with wider the relevant market team
  • Work with the practice leadership teams to ensure skills and capacity meet client needs to match resource demand forecast.
  • Leadership of and support to strategic and large multi-million bid opportunities into new client(s)

Requirements

  • Proven experience operating in similar leadership position, managing within industry and public-sector client organisations, delivering significant complex technical programmes in a collaborative working environment
  • Able to demonstrate performance driven behaviours, measurable results in large and multi-discipline environments in both complex technical delivery and transformational activities.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstration of clear consulting experience and client centric behaviours with strong communication skills; able to effectively interface with clients, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong collaborative behaviours to interface with client, contractors, other supply chain partners and the wider stakeholder communities.
  • Strong demonstrable commercial acumen (understands contracts and able to manage internal and external change effectively) & negotiating skills typically required to secure and deliver £10m+ investments
  • Good knowledge and experience of implementing and operating Project Governance, Controls and Reporting including Planning, Risks/Issues, Finance and Change Management.
  • Commercial awareness and experience, understands Contracts and able to effectively
  • Good knowledge of financial processes including project cost control and ability to interpret and report financial data and analysis
  • Experience of effectively managing 3rd Party Suppliers, utilising a variety of contracting methods (e.g. T&M, Firm Price)
  • Demonstrable evidence of a developed professional network
  • Degree level or equivalent professional qualification in relevant technical discipline.
  • Registered Project Professional or Chartered Project Professional with the APM (or equivalent), MSP
  • Previous experience of working in the Defence sector (public or private) is desirable but not essential

Additional Requirements

UK Mobile, whilst operating from one of our Atkins’ main office locations. Prepared if required to undergo security clearance for working at clients in the UK public sector
