Job Summary
As a member of the Core Communications team, you will primarily support the outreach efforts of WRI’s Programs and Centers (about 75% of your time). You will be responsible for a broad range of communications efforts with an emphasis on writing and editing communication materials including blogs posts and op-eds, as well as supporting messaging, social media, media pitching, event/webinar management and more. To be successful in this role, you must first-and-foremost be a strong writer and editor, with the ability to quickly find and understand information about new topics. We envision that you will also be an enthusiastic creative thinker who is organized and detail-oriented with a good sense of the latest communication trends and an interest in continued learning.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, two-year limited term position with potential to be extended.
Job Responsibilities
  • Write and edit blogs, op-eds, talking points and other communication materials. This includes editing researcher-written articles for WRI’s flagship Insights blog
  • Draft media pitches and press releases, and build media distributions using Cision
  • Develop social media strategies and post content on Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Draft and edit internal and external emails and newsletters; research contact lists from WRI’s database
  • Support planning and logistics for internal and external events and webinars, including the design of events, speaker prep, set-up, break-down and related
  • Support communications for WRI senior staff and leadership, including outreach related to media, writing, editing, presentations, and more
  • Design and edit Powerpoint presentations and other content
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the Communications team.
Job Qualifications
  • Minimum two years of professional work experience in communications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in journalism, public relations, communications, international relations, public policy, environmental studies or related field
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including comfort reading and translating technical research for mass audiences
  • Working knowledge of the media landscape and ability to conduct media research and outreach
  • Understanding of social media and design skills are highly desirable
  • Interest in and commitment to environment and international development issues
  • Highly motivated, creative and proactive work style
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to juggle multiple projects and responsibilities
  • Interest and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a team

  • US work authorization is required. WRI is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this opportunity.
Potential Salary
$53,000 - $68,000. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
