The Role:

The Staff Reliability Engineer will be a core member of the Quality team at Fitbit. In this role you will work closely with Product Design, Hardware Engineering and Operations to bring products to market which delight our customers.

What You’ll Work On:

  • Represent reliability engineering in a cross functional team.
  • Establish design for reliability for Fitbit products in development. Influence the product team to ensure that field quality requirements are an integral part of early design decisions.
  • Define product usage model to drive reliability test design.
  • Create a 360-degree reliability process from consumer surveys to reliability design to field failure projection to field failure actuals, back to consumer surveys.
  • Be the subject matter expert on reliability best practices in the consumer electronics industry. Drive the application of these best practices into reliability design at Fitbit.
  • Drive organizational understanding of reliability concepts and data.
  • Identify and detect processes for early detection of product reliability weaknesses.
  • Drive deep and fast failure analysis and RCCA.
  • Be able to deliver effective executive updates in writing and in meetings. Be able to level-up reliability and field failure data into key corporate metrics and financials.
  • Write clear, logic and complete reliability reports with actionable messages digestible to multiple audiences.
  • Provide input into design and process experiments to improve projected field quality of the product.
  • Execute on reliability tests, and provide experimental data analysis for an in-depth understanding of root cause.
  • Drive component reliability qualification to meet schedule and reliability.

Requirements:

  • 8+ reliability engineering/ reliability management experience
  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Physics or related field
  • Knowledge of accelerated life testing theory and methods (development, planning and execution)
  • Experience in one or more of the following statistical analysis tools: Minitab or JMP or Weibull ++
  • Some travel (up to 30%) to manufacturing locations and suppliers.

This role will also need:

  • Collaboration and teamwork to drive consensus on reliability and product quality decisions
  • Project management skills
  • Experience working with manufacturers and suppliers in Asia.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
