Job Summary:
This job is responsible for interpreting and transcribing dictation by physicians, therapists or other clinicians in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of healthcare services. Work requires an in-depth knowledge of medical terminology, and the ability to understand diverse accents, dialects and dissimilar dictation styles. An incumbent must produce work with a high degree of accuracy and maintain confidentiality of all medical information in accordance with established regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties:
  • Accurately transcribes medical dictation from cardiologists/radiologists/therapists to provide a permanent record of patient care
  • Operates designated equipment such as dictation, transcription, and FAX machines; typewriters, telephones, and hospital information system
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the medical/legal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records.
  • Adheres to internal policies and procedures; safety, risk management, and Standard Precaution Standards
  • Expands job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance.
Education/Requirements:
  • Associate degree in a related field, with successful completion of courses in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and/or medical transcription, and 3 years of recent related work experience in a healthcare setting.
  • An equivalent combination of additional qualifying work experience and education may substitute for the degree requirement
