Senior Data Scientist, Capacity Tools

The Capacity Planning Team builds reporting tools and visualizations needed to efficiently monitor and model growth trends for Fastly’s Edge Network Infrastructure. These insights into the growth of our systems contribute in a very direct way to Fastly’s financial health, and the ability of our engineering leaders to make strategic decisions and enable the success of our customers.

We are looking for a Data Scientist to build tools, analyze data, and visualize trends on the network that directly translate to meeting our engineering and financial goals.

What You'll Do

• Provide data analysis and deliver reporting tools to stakeholders on the Infrastructure, Network, Sales, Finance, and Engineering teams.
• Drive insights and clear decisions around how to optimize our network and server resources to improve our performance for customers.
• Interpret data results and support team members in adopting these new tools into their daily workflows.
• Enable an enhanced view of the operations of the infrastructure team as it affects the core financial success of Fastly as a company.
• Set baseline values and monitor the impact of capacity and efficiency changes on our performance.
• Leverage the resulting insights in traffic delivery, including interconnection, hardware performance, and network troubleshooting.

What We're Looking For

• Experience doing data visualizations, processing data into different reports and designing easily digestible views of complex data.
• Experience with networking topology, network latency, and/or server performance metrics.
• Familiarity with Shiny, R and/or Python development of computational tools is highly valued.
• We're expecting some proficiency in SQL and experience working with large datasets.
• Gathering requirements for new features and modifications of existing systems will be a big part of the job, so we're also looking for the ability to take ownership and drive components to completion.
• Communication skills and empathy with end users are a must, as you will be collaborating with them on research questions.
