Job Description and Specific Responsibilities

The Application Development Engineer would join global Marketing & Sales Electronics team as one of its core members being responsible for supporting development and formulating state of the art films based on new building blocks. The candidate is the applications expert and will work with the application team, industry managers, the commercial team and product managers to develop materials that meet or exceed customer expectations. The candidate will collaborate with formulators, scientists, and biologists to deliver meaningful products. The candidate will also design experiments and perform material testing.

Immediate responsibilities include:

• Maintain an expert level of understanding for specialty film polymers, processing and end-use applications.
• Experienced in reducing customer requirements to material development parameters (like mechanical and optical properties).
• Experienced with a variety of specialty applications in the Electronics customer base like displays, flexible circuits, antennas, etc.
• Perform application tear downs, identify components (functions), materials and areas for improvement. Drive the effort down to a level of understand future needs and trends supporting the build of a roadmap for Electronics.
• Expected travel intensity globally is around 30%. Main focus on Asia Pacific.

The Products team within the company is integral to the research and development of new films for different industries. Members of the team are laser-focused, thoughtful, analytical, well-organized, energetic, collaborative, and fully engaged in the development of new products. In addition, team members are committed to the continuous improvement of developed products and investigation of properties that new bio-based molecules can bring.

Qualifications/Experience

• The role requires a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in the field of Application Development and material development.
• 3-5 years working externally in the field of Electronics.
• Has a developed Asian industry network in electronics and preferably films .
• Candidates need a solid background and hands on experience in application development, understanding functionality and testing.

The role should be based in Tokyo JP (Tokyo office)
