Senior Technical Writer - Developer Experience

You are a technical writer interested in speaking to developers regarding location APIs, geography, maps, data analysis, and science. You have a passion for clearly focused writing and helping developers get the most from their investment. Blend your passion for writing and technology to help us write better developer documentation for Esri’s APIs and SDKs. Help us improve our developer documentation and developer outreach by working with product engineers, other technical writers, and other stakeholders to help write and edit developer-focused web pages, help topics, tutorials, API references, and supporting materials.

Responsibilities:

• Write conceptual topics, product documentation, developer tutorials, and blog posts
• Help define, organize, and make changes to website content and its information architecture
• Create new documentation by turning specifications and design documents into early drafts of product documentation
• Establish and define customer requirements and translate them into documentation improvements
• Collaborate with SDK teams to create, update, and maintain product documentation

More experienced individuals will:

• Understand customer workflows and guide information architecture
• Write documentation on advanced developer topics
• Help define product roadmaps

Requirements

• Experience with documentation workflows that use any of the following: HTML, CSS, Markdown, JSX/MDX, DITA, YAML, JSON, or HTML templates
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
• Familiarity with at least one current software development platform, such as web, JavaScript, iOS, Android, .NET, or Java
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Bachelor's or master's in GIS, computer science, technical writing, or related fields such as the physical or social sciences, depending on position level

Recommended Qualifications:

• Experience with ArcGIS or other GIS software
• Prior development experience, especially in JavaScript, NodeJS, or Python
• Experience with RESTful APIs
• Demonstrated experience with modern website development practices
