What you’re good at

Position Summary:

The Senior Managing Director of IT Operations will report to the SVP of the Infrastructure, Operations, and Cloud organization within the Schwab Technology Services (STS) group, and is responsible for driving improvements in operations and availability across the STS organization. The SMD will directly lead the Monitoring Operations, Incident Command, Operations Communications, Disaster Recovery, and Batch Processing teams, and will provide influential indirect leadership across all of STS.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensures systems and applications are operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year
  • Leads staff, process, procedures, and controls to maintain the highest availability and security of Schwab’s client facing and internal applications and systems
  • Drive and influence operational consistency (process, tooling, automation, and methodology) across the IO&C and STS SaVE/Production Support teams
  • Partner with the Infrastructure and Cloud Technology and Application teams’ leadership to influence and drive priority on availability and resiliency (ensure NFRs are being addressed)
  • Create passion around a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and engagement
  • Deliver on key commitments

What you have

Ideal Experience Profile:

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in a technology leadership role, with at least 6 of those years in an operational leadership capacity
  • Results oriented leader who takes the initiative and effectively distills strategy, analytics, and varied sets of input to drive to decisions and follow through to execution
  • Strong business influencing skills and able to shape, define and present a complete and thorough picture of Schwab’s Operational capabilities, including clear and recurring communication to executive management
  • Experience managing highly talented technologists, operators, and software developers
  • Experience in successfully leading change through complex environments and organizational structures
  • Leverage strategic and analytical capabilities to make sound, timely decisions based on client and field input supporting and maintaining a strong production environment including evaluating risk versus expense versus the client experience'Able to act decisively in making solid, informed judgment calls
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization
  • Strong emotional intelligence/maturity and substantial senior level executive presence
  • Experienced in effectively assessing, selecting and developing talent for the firm; adept at providing balanced, direct and actionable feedback to employees. Experience managing multiple priorities and overseeing distinct teams with varied strengths
  • Thrives on initiating, building and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside and outside the group; highly collaborative; navigates and activates alignment across organizational boundaries
  • An undergraduate degree (B.S.) in a technology related field is required; Advanced technology or business degree is preferred
