AIR’s Research and Evaluation area is seeking a Research Associate to join our team in Crystal City, Virginia. The Research Associate will provide support on several large-scale international assessments, for example, the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS).

Responsibilities

The Research Associate will assist on a day-to-day basis in support of activities pertaining to international assessments. Work activities will primarily include researching topics pertaining to international education; assisting with data analysis; conducting data quality checks; preparing and reviewing data tables, figures, and data documentation; assisting with writing and the review of research papers and statistical reports; revising manuscripts in response to editorial and technical comments; preparing products for release based on detailed publication standards; assisting with website updates; and developing presentations for professional audiences.

Qualifications

  • BA and 3+ years of experience or M.A./M.S. in fields such as statistics, economics, education or other related fields;
  • Ability to work under conditions requiring careful attention to detail;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple competing priorities under time constraints;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including the ability to maintain a professional and effective working relationship with project staff and clients;
  • Interest in research in education; comparative and international studies; content areas such as mathematics, science, or reading;
  • Preferred: Quantitative research experience, assessment and/or survey research experience, and experience working with one or more statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R).
