Overview

University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. We provide a broad range of pediatric programs from surgery, imaging and neonatal and pediatric intensive care to cardiac and oncology (cancer care) services and blood and marrow and organ transplantation.

Our clinical staff apply innovative approaches to creating medical breakthroughs based their work with patients and on findings through research at the University of Minnesota. This has led to several firsts, including the first successful pediatric blood marrow transplant, infant heart transplant in Minnesota and cochlear ear implant surgery for a child.

Through teamwork and collaboration, we respectfully address the physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of pediatric patients and their families.

12 beds, works closely with Pediatric ICU on same floor.

  • Pediatric patients (newborns to young adults)
  • Medical and Surgical patients requiring cardiovascular intensive care, including...
    • Cardiology
    • Heart Failure
    • ECMO
    • Rhythm Disturbances
    • VADs and Heart Transplantation
  • Provides care to pediatric patients requiring close observation and advanced monitoring, using current technology.
  • Care for patient undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on unit.

This position will be working 40 hours every two weeks on the rotating day/evening/night shift, 8 hours shifts and every other weekend. The position is eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities/Job Description

The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. Other job duties include:

  • Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
  • Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
  • Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
  • Ordering and stocking of supplies

Qualifications

Required:

Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire with the following exceptions:

  • If the applicant is currently enrolled in an RN program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program or
  • If the applicant is a current Fairview employee, this requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
