Network Coordinator

Code for America supports a vibrant and effective volunteer community of 80+ volunteer chapters across the country called Brigades. We are a national network of community organizers and technologists who build, share and learn about civic tech. Brigades are incredible resources to their local communities, creating projects and initiatives that help their residents navigate the criminal justice system, improve public transit and address housing issues.

The Network Team at Code for America is looking for a Network Coordinator to support our distributed Network by providing administrative, logistical, and program support. You will be on the front lines of the Network Team, the first person many of volunteers meet during their relationship with Code for America. Specifically you will drive the operations of the Brigade program including onboarding new leadership, aiding in setting up local groups, processing expenses and managing the team’s documents and data.

This is a great opportunity for someone who has strong logistical operations skills and can act as a friendly and effective interface between the Network team, Brigade leaders, and outside partners. This role reports to the Senior Program Manager of the Brigade Network, and requires some travel, about 10% of the time.

Areas of Responsibilities

The Network Coordinator owns 3 major buckets of work: Logistical & Event Support, Financial Administration, and Programmatic & Communication support. Time allocations are initial estimates for your first 6-12 months.

1) Logistical & Event Support (25%)

  • Coordinate all logistics for, and help plan and execute, the Brigade Network’s annual convenings, including Brigade Congress and Brigade participation at Summit
  • Manage travel support, ticketing, expense reporting, and logistical communications for in-person events.

2) Financial Administration (25%)

  • Manage expense reporting and supporting documents for Brigade leaders.
  • Manage the annual signing process of Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) for Brigades and Code for America.
  • Respond to Brigade leader questions about finances and financial reimbursements, and escalate issues as necessary.

3) Programmatic & Communication support (50%)

  • Compose and distribute communications such as emails, blogs or Discourse posts, Slack messages, etc to the Code for America Brigade Network, in coordination with Network and Marketing team
  • Manage the program’s administrative tasks including sending materials, following onboarding procedures, scheduling and preparing for meetings, and routing inbound requests
  • Onboard new organizations and leaders into the Brigade Network.
  • Track metrics and lead internal programmatic reporting for Network team (including updating progress in goal tracking documents, logging “changes we’ve influenced”, compiling updates for other teams)
  • Travel to Brigade chapters, Network events, and community convenings.
  • Be an integral part of ensuring a great volunteer experience for our Brigade leaders.
  • Onboarding for In-Kind resources

Approach

  • Detail-oriented and systems focused: Stay on top of all specific tasks/follow-up items and general areas of work; consistently meet deadlines.
  • Independent and strong self direction: A self-starter with ability to see tasks through from start to finish independently
  • Email Management: Ability to write concise emails and handle high email volume.
  • Effective Response Skills: Strong customer service skills and ability to escalate issues as appropriate
  • Network Experience: Experience with Code for America Brigades is a big plus. Experience working with volunteer groups and/or, community organizing preferred.
  • Optimistic approach and flexibility: Approach work with a spirit of “yes”; push work forward through obstacles and adapt quickly as things change (which they inevitably will!).

This role with travel up to 10% of the time and this position is remote friendly.
