POSITION SUMMARY:
The Data Coordinator is an essential team member within Boston Medical Center's Stem Cell Transplant Program. This role is housed within the Cancer and Hematology Clinical Research Program and may include assisting in research projects outside of the transplant Program. Responsibilities include coordination of data relating to patients undergoing stem cell transplant, assisting with patient scheduling and coordination, obtaining insurance approvals and assisting in programmatic quality management activities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Obtains informed consent from patients to allow submission of data to the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR).
Maintains on-going communications with physicians and staff for data collection needs
Reviews and abstracts the medical records of patients pre- and post- transplant.
Enters data into various electronic databases
Reviews data for quality and completeness and ensures appropriate source documentation.
Assists Quality Manager in the creation of data reports for quality assurance measures.
Maintains long-term outcomes data and locates past transplant patients who are long-term cancer survivors.
Maintains databases containing information on patients undergoing stem cell transplantation.
Collecting and entering data in the appropriate database.
Prepare meeting materials and written summaries of program meetings.
Assist with the drafting of presentations, including the creation of graphs and figures.
Provide other research support and administrative support as directed to ensure smooth operations of the program
Maintains confidentiality with regard to patient information and other sensitive information.
Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
Utilizes hospital’s values as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the hospital mission.
Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
Develops and implements measures to improve efficiency in office operations.
Must adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
BS/BA required
EXPERIENCE:
1-2 years of office experience in a medical setting preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Strong computer skills, including a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point) or similar computer programs required.
Excellent communication skills required – verbal, written and analytical
Ability to self-direct, to set priorities and balance numerous responsibilities required.
