Job Description

Everlane is looking for a materials developer to lead innovative, sustainable sourcing, research, and development for apparel, Men’s and Women’s divisions. This role will include sourcing and development for all apparel categories; Wovens, Knits, Yarns, Denim, and Trims. You will work closely with design, merchandising, product development, and QA, and report directly to our Material Sourcing Manager.

Your day-to-day:

    • Partner in setting supplier direction; analyze supplier base and support relationship creation and development with mills
    • Research sustainability opportunity for materials to support brand sustainability goals
    • Creatively and strategically source and develop new materials to support business needs
    • Build strong cross-functional relationships with design, PD, and Merch leads in product development process
    • Attend seasonal fabric fairs, organize SF mill weeks
    • Manage RM Database and Key Sustainability Metrics
    • Manage fabric inquiry & development process with mills for relevant categories, balancing aesthetic, cost, and leadtime
    • Facilitate best in class materials quality through close partnership with QA team
    • Negotiate bulk fabric costing based on buy quantity and IMU targets
    • Analyze seasonal development yardage spend, development and adoption ratios

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

    • 5-6+ years in materials sourcing, strong technical skills in fabric innovation and development.
    • 2+ years management experience, passion for developing and growing team-members
    • Experience in denim, sweater yarns, and/or performance/technical materials
    • Working knowledge of product development and QA
    • Experience with environmentally sustainable sourcing
    • Highly creative thinker, strategic problem-solver, detail oriented, proactive, strong analytical skills
    • Developed brand-appropriate aesthetic
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and work-flows simultaneously
    • Strong verbal, written and negotiation skills
    • Strong communication, ability to build and support cross-functional partnership
